I discovered two things when I walked into Irving's Toy and Card Shop:1) Its owner, Ethel Weiss, will turn 100 in Summer 2014 (and she's got gumption, that one).2) She had what I've been trying to find for years now: a Gumby and Pokey set (for $7.95 each)!Ms. Weiss's toy and card shop is cluttered and fabulous - well worth the trip to the Coolidge Corner area of slightly snooty Brookline (beware of well-off 30-somethings, clad in Canada Goose parkas, steering expensive, wide-bodied baby strollers while paying no heed to pedestrians). Browse her cramped store for 10-15 minutes, have a chat with her, and be sure to buy one or two fun items (there's candy, too, and school supplies). Kids, and kids at heart, love the place. Her shop's a haven for the after-school gang.Ms. Weiss is getting lots of attention these days. Newspapers have profiled her. National Public Radio has done a feature. You can find her on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQHcYuXGzJA). She thinks all the attention is "a little too much," but, when you've been in business for 75 years - and you're about to turn 100 - it comes with the territory.
