The only problem are unleashed dogs who often take a nip at you. To avoid this potential problem stick to the trails marked leashed. The dog owners are pretty good about this. Otherwise a lovely place that can take you by trail all the way to Walden Pond.
We drive to Mount Misery from Wayland whenever we want to spend a few hours in the woods. With lots of access points, you can walk for 45 minutes to the top of 250 foot tall "Mount" Misery, or for an entire day if you follow the trails on into the rest of Lincoln and Concord. The trail system is a bit convoluted, and its not always easy to see the trail across the road, but the terrain, the trees and the next bend always reward.
Mt Misery is a hill in Boston Metro West. Although not a "destination" hike, the conservation land of its location is laced with pleasant foot paths that are mostly on old woods roads (read wide, fairly smooth, good footing, and gentle grade). Views from the top of Misery are underwhelming. Some of the paths are open to mountain bikes. Most trails seem to be marked but informational signage is rare; a map from the relevant town conservation commission would help. In principle it should be possible to walk from Rte 117 near the Sudbury River crossing to Walden Pond in Concord; however, since one is traversing public lands in 3 different towns, the way is not obvious. My wife and I walked from the Rte 117 parking area, up Misery and eventually to the Lincoln MBTA train stop where there are shops, restaurants and a supermarket. On the Sunday we were there the place was mostly closed except for one restaurant ($$) and the market (which has a deli with sandwiches). We found the path from the Mt Misery area to Lincoln by asking a volunteer ate the community farm. By the most direct route the one way distance is about 2 miles. All in all, a pleasant place to walk and explore. Appropriate for all ages.
It might be a bit much to call it "Mount" but it's a beautiful spot. It was quite windy and so as we walked along the trail there were leaves falling down everywhere. It was absolutely beautiful. There weren't a lot of people there so it was a great walk around with my husband and enjoy nature. If you want a quick hike in the woods this is the place to go!
This is a great place for a walk in the Concord/Lincoln area woods. There are many different trails and most are an easy walk. Fall is a spectacular time to walk in these woods as the colors are sensational. Take the time to scope out the trail(s) that you want to explore. The trails are well maintained and easy to follow.
Mt Misery, in Lincoln, MA, is relatively small, but has trails in a variety of settings. A wide hard-packed dirt path goes through a heavily wooded area, with no sign of civilization, leading to a wide open to the sky dirt trail leading through one of the last working farms in Greater Boston. Then there is the narrow trail to the short summit of Mt Misery, occasionally steep. A very good day trip. Bring a cold drink and a sandwich. And a trash bag. There is a trail map posted in a small parking lot off Rte. 117, and there may or may not be handouts available with a map.
