This public library in Lowell, MA is a gem, with impressive collections, internet access, gorgeous frescos, majestic stairways and extremely impressive building. The staff is also very helpful. Parking available only on the street.

This library is worth a visit just for the building. Check out the woodwork and the huge paintings on the Mezzanine. It is a well stocked library. Besides books in English they have significant collections in the languages of recent immigrants to the city. There are also many DVD's. The periodical section is adequate.The furnishings are a bit well worn with use. My only complaint is that some librarians speak a bit too loudly for a library environment.

Its a classic library that caters to its core constituency. The librarians in the check out area are very nice, but mostly I love to look at the stained glass and the murals in the reference area.

I visit this library frequently. It has beautiful woodwork and interior. It is a lovely old building. The bottom floor has a large section for children. There is a computer section. Upstairs are the stacks and both floors have great reference librarians. It has museum passes for residents with a nice assortment for local and Boston museums. It's a great place to spend some time.

This has got to be one of the most beautiful libraries in the country. So historical and grand. A must see on any visit to Lowell.

Gorgeous on the outside, so run down on the inside....rugs are ripped, no a/c, childrens room is not inviting, staff are not friendly....we live in lowell and choose to frequent the Billerica and Tewksbury libraries....cleaner and friendlier.

Don't waste your time going to this library, the librarians are always in a horrible mood.I go there to bring my children to the children's room and there is just one old lady that is very nice, she saves the day because the rest of them are to the point to be rude. The children's section is dark because they blocked the wall of windows with junk. The book are not well organized, you can find books for little kids and 1-graders all mixed up. I've been to much better libraries in Massachusetts so I would do some research first.Good luck!
