This library is new & has lots of extras. Small quiet rooms, places to charge electronics & plug into free wi-fi, huge kids area, etc. Me & my kids love to go here and just relax.
This library is a hidden treasure. It is absolutely beautiful. The building is constructed to fit into the historical flavor of the town. The library has lots and lots of great books,a great children's library and computers. It has great reading nooks even one outside on their back deck while being submersed in nature. I believe it to be one of the best libraries in Maryland. Go take a look for yourself. I love it.
This great library is an architecturally interesting building that reflects the historical Catoctin Furnace which is located in the area. They have an extensive collection of materials to fit the interests and needs of all ages in addition to many programs geared to all ages. If they don't have the book you want they can usually get it from another library in the system. The library offers wifi and computers and a beautiful outdoor deck for reading and concerts in nice weather. A friendly and helpful staff is also available to answer questions.Check it out!
I love Thurmont Regional Library. The building designed was inspired by the iron works furnace which is part of the Catoctin area history. The library features large meeting rooms and several smaller meeting rooms used for library presentations as well as being available for the public to reserve for private use. The Childrens' library is incredible. It has a very large selection of books and offers numerous activities and assorted multi media literacy rich materials to offer wonderfully coordinated enrichment. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. They don"t mind helping someone like me who is uncomfortable with all the technology that abounds here as well. The library keeps up with the needs of the community. It keeps the community updated by offering information about various community organizations. One final note: I appreciate that the head librarian has worked here before I moved to Thurmont in 1992 at the old library when it occupied an old store front. She was able to see the library through to its new location and building and she continues showing her dedecation to this community.
For a small town Library, this is one of the nicest, well stocked and friendly I have ever been too. Very nice selection of books, audio and video items. Very friendly staff. Always has activities going on for tot's to Adults. The building itself is just gorgeous.
Thurmont, Maryland is a small town with a great library. The building is about three years old and it has much more to offer than most people would expect from a small town library. It provides very modern research capabilities as expected in any library in the digital age, but it also offers a surprising atmosphere that invites patrons to stay and enjoy the very attractive facility itself. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, read or perform computer research. In addition, it has a very large outdoor deck under a roof, and this overlooks a wooded area for people to read, and enjoy the scenic views in comfortable outdoor seating.
We frequent this library often with our 3 year old daughter and have been going since it opened a few years ago. The building is unique, the staff is friendly and helpful, and they offer some great resources and space to enjoy - there's a back deck that's perfect for a picnic and reading time. They offer some excellent story times for small children and always have family friendly events going on (movie showings, special authors visiting, local business' like the zoo and dance teams, special events, etc).
Love the library!!! They have a great children's section. There are story times, etc. for the kids. A great outdoor area that overlooks the back. They are open on Sundays! Friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of books. It is a fairly new library.
One of only 3 libraries in the county to open its doors everyday of the week, this one is my favorite. The large covered deck with numerous tables and at least 3 rocking chairs provide a unique setting to read at which can't be experienced anywhere else in the county. I love going out there to read on a rocking chair with the sounds of nature acting as an outside stimulus. The building itself is new having opened in August 2008. The restrooms are clean and maintained, and there's a drive-up window to return books. Besides from the covered deck and the mountain setting, another reason I use this library instead of the one in Frederick is the free parking (all day instead of a 2 hour limit at C. Burr Artz). The front stand in the foyer always has local event flyers on display to keep you informed about the happenings around the county.
This is the best library in Frederick County. The librarians are always helpful and pleasant and the setting is beautiful. The library with it's barn like look fits in the local area beautifully and when you get inside you'll see the high tech interior with a down home flavor. The outside porch is great especially when they have entertainment.
