Goodbye Recher. You were so cheesy and wonderful. I will miss you and your bad taste in local high school and college cover bands.Mr. Greenjeans wont have anywhere to play now.
Thankfully the Recher is no more. It was a gross place. I heard they had a time when it was the place to be. That time is gone and time to move on to something better.
The Recher used to be a fun place with local bands, good crowds, and decent drinks. Then they had a problem (Not their fault from what I read) that involved police and arrests in the street outside The Recher. It's a shame, we need more places where local bands can get their start
According to the latest news around Towson, the Recher Theatre will no longer be a local band venue and is being closed. It is being combined with The Rec Room next door into one large coctail lounge. A new name for the combined operation has not yet been released that I know of.
This is not a bad venue. I've attended many concerts here, some very good names in music. However, the demographic is shifting, as the concerts get crappier and they are really starting to try for the college bar scene from Towson kids. Perhaps a good financial choice, but not a good aesthetic decision. Still good for local concerts.Have seen the likes of mewithoutYou, Manchester Orchestra, Flobots, couple hardcore shows, etc.
Used to be a cinema when I was a kid! For a small hall, they bring some great entertainers, and it's away from the city, actually a fun suburban area. Sells wine and beer. Standing only is the set up, which can be tedious by night's end, but the crowd gets really fired up. Can check your coats for a small fee. Crowd is eclectic...I've seen small kids with parents, teens, midlifers, etc. Nice, safe area to enjoy a concert.
Its just not that great! A small space, extremely unfriendly security guards, sketchy part of town, sketchy people in general, filthy bathrooms, confusing layout.... ick.
Went there to see a local band. The cover price was cheap. It had alot of charecter. The staff was friendly & the drinks were reasonable. What more could you want. Next time i would go earlier to check out the shops & restraunts that are within walking distance.
We went there to see a small concert. The was not wait for the bar, nothing fancy but tickets were cheap. There is a parking garage 2 blocks over where you can park as long as you want for a max rate of 6 bucks. I would go early to walk around there alot of great shops and food places in that area
The Recher appears to be a vintage movie theater that's been modified into a concert venue, as has happened all over the country. That's a good thing. They get some very popular acts, which is another good thing, but the theater itself is nasty. There is no place to sit inside, and the dirty, tattered carpeting looks like you should Lysol yourself if you sit on the floor. 2 of the 3 exit signs were unlighted, so when the lights went out for the shows, the only lighted exit was through the narrow front entry hall. The fire exit signs for the exit doors on either side of the stage were not lighted, so patrons would not be aware of them in an emergency. (I reported that - no one wants a repeat of the Rhode Island nightclub disaster). The sound system was very poor the night I was there. The theater is held in high regard by its fans, but the theater management should make some upgrades. I recommend this venue if it's the only place to check out a particular band and as something to experience, but don't expect quality. The neighborhood seemed safe, parking was convenient, and the giant Towson Center multilevel mall is very close by.
