for the 3th time we went with friends to midacreek, nice, wonderfull, good guide! the night we spend in the gyryama huts, but first dinner on the beach, good fish and vegetables, good atmosfere, dancers and drums, fire, wine, dancing and laughing till 1am, a good sleep , and then an excellent breakfast!! thanks mama Arafa and her helpers! thanks
I went to the creek on an organised trip and I enjoyed everything about the place. The mangrove, the calmness of the lagoon and the variety of birds, especially the flamingoes, were soul calming indeed.
I enjoyed my trip to the Mida Creek. I went there to see the mangroves and was not dissapointed. Lots of crabs! I also saw the porcupines, frog fish etc. Really nice. I didn't buy a trip, just went there alone. Enjoyed the board walk :)
Lovely location for feeling at one with nature. Many different bird species to see and I appreciated it even though I'm not a bird watcher at heart!
We had looked forward to our visit here. Indeed it was one of the main destinations on our month long journey. We booked a guide and paid our fees. Access to the flats was via a rope walkway above and through the mangroves . we settled into the hide and awaited the incoming tide to push the many wading birds closer to us. Indeed we held off photography a while 'knowing' closer views would be coming.Sadly we were joined/interrupted by a small party of locals who promptly ignored our guides polite requests for quiet and promptly set about being noisy and posing for selfies etc., in the Mangroves. Obviously out for a good time but not for us.had they paid the fee? Is there any control over access? Who knows. but our trip was ruined.A sanctuary is meant to be just that. Not a bloody resort.
seeing where good planning and your tourist money goes-fabulous boardwalk-go at high tide and don't take a guide-pop over to the village nearby for fresh coconut-paid 50 shillings for 2-greta place and we don't really like birds that much!
What an excursion. Mira Creek Reserve is run by the community and they have some excellent guides. Ours called Hassan had real in depth knowledge of the environment and the rare migratory bird species that you get in the creek.Go at around 3:30 as the birds are coming back home. Take a trip in an African dugout canoe. Spend time, it's worth it.
Took a Dhow sunset cruise which was peaceful but didn't see much and it just seemed an expensive way of passing a couple of hours with some strong drinks and bitings.
There are lots of different ways to see and explore the beautiful and peaceful Mida Creek, which is famous for its bird life including many migratory species. On this occasion we opted for a sunset cruise on a dhow organised by Hemingways Watamu. Hemingways is probably more expensive than other dhow trips but it knows how to do things in style and did not stint on either drinks or the excellent finger-food. The sunset was spectacular but, as it was high tide, we did not see many birds. For that, you need to go at low tide with a shallow bottomed boat, which we did in 2013, or go to the bird hide at Mida Creek Boardwalk.
With Doctari local punch or a Tusker beer enjoy a sunset cruise.Staff sail the Dhow up the creek showing you African fish eagles etc.
You have to get up early to see all the wonderful wild life but it is worth the effort you can book a trip through the Watamu Turtle Bay hotel
Wonderful nature reserve trees birds wild life and peace very worth visiting. I go back every time I am there.
Took a day trip on a boat organized by the beach boys. The boys made sure we had an awesome time and the occupants of the creek also entertained us thoroughly. Bought some curios to support the local youth. Ate some large Lobsters( or loboster as our guide called it :D ) and grilled octopus. Very tasty, yum
A nature reserve with the possibility to take a closer look at the wild life. Great personel that came running with the camera we had forgotten...
The creek is beautifully preserved. The walk 260m on the suspended bridge to the bird hide is really as the locals call it "indiana jones". It was thrilling and a bit dangerous, as the bridge is very shaky, and parts are broken. The ride back to the shore on the local boats made of out shelled out boabab trees is worth the extra cost, as the drivers sing local songs and make the ride enjoyable.
