I've visited Island Spirits Distillery on two occasions. Each visit was an interesting and informative experience. Pete, the owner, was there on both occasions - he was very friendly and eager to talk about both the science and the artistry behind the formulation of the vodkas and gins produced there. The quality of their products is impeccable, and we were offered tastings. I could not leave without buying at least one bottle - it's hard to choose which ones to buy. For anyone interested in high quality spirits, I recommend a visit to this place - you will not be disappointed!

Such a great addition to the Hornby Island Wine circuit! Their Gin and Vodka are awesome! Super fun to stop in and do a tasting, very generous!

My wife and I visited Hornby Island in September 2012 along with my best man and his wife who live on Vancouver Island. We were not able to visit the distillery on this occasion but enjoyed a tour of this lovely island with magnificent sea views. We swam off Tribune Beach and walked along various interesting paths. We were staying with our son and daughter-in-law and grand-daughter, on Denman Island which is a five minute ferry trip from Hornby ana slightly longer by separate ferry to the main Vancouver Island. This whole area is worth a hoiday visit. We enjoyed regular swims in the sea and lakes even in September! A fantastic family visit and we shall return.

We visited Island Spirits Distillery (also known as "The Phrogery") on our visit this weekend to Hornby Island. What a really neat place. It's out in the middle of the woods down a windy, dirt road. Easy to miss if you didn't know it was there. The man and woman that run it were very informative and obviously very passionate about their business. Very neat to see how their spirits are made. They were happy to share samples and discuss how each item was made. They make some very nice spirits - gin, vodka, fruit liqueurs. They also have a gorgeous koi pond, which is nice to check out. We purchased a few items to enjoy! Also found out when we were there about the "Middle Mountain Meadery" where they make honey wine. In fact the Phrogery and the Meadery co-market a special drink called the "Magik Phrog" that combines the Phrog Gin and the Mead Liqueur. We bought both items to make this special Hornby drink. Be sure to visit both locations.

As part of a guy weekend on Hornby we had to, of course, visit the Distillery. Interesting set up. Absolutely loved the koi pond to the left of the entrance. Beautiful. The highlight, for me, was the still itself. It is a work of art. The hammered copper is beautiful and very interesting to look at.Really liked the 'brown vodka' which is their interpretation of Scotch Whiskey. Though it does not have the depth of a single malt it was quite tasty. The gin, I understand, is good. The server pouring the samples adds water, for reason unbeknownst to me, to the gin (but to nothing else). She added a large amount of water to mine and it tasted, funny enough, like watered down gin. I am sure it is good as several of the guys bought bottles of it.Their have about 12 products that their produce, many of them flavoured vodka's. Didn't try any of the fruit (or flowers, can't recall) vodkas. All in all it is certainly worth going to the Island Distillery for a tour, hear their story, try some samples and for the opportunity to buy a home grown, unique, BC product. Bear in mind, if you try all of their products, you may need a designated driver to get you home :)
