A well presented tourist icon. Perfect for that cheesy photo. An interesting display about the wool industry & of course you can climb to the top to look through the sheep's eyes. The shop provides a good selection of quality woolen goods & souvenirs, though not all Australian made & certainly not cheap, as well as the usual cheap souvenirs found in these establishments.
Just stopped here for a quick photo with the big sheep. Plenty of room to park car + trailer. Didn't go into the shop and wasn't aware we could climb. However, we only really stopped for the photo. It was worth seeing.
One of those must see sights whilst in Goulburn, There is the ability to climb up inside the Merino to look out of its eyes, which is great for stretching the legs before getting back into your car. There is also a gift shop attached, as well as many other places to grab a bite to eat.
This is just one of the things you have to stop at and take a photo of. Also there is a history section inside gift shop which was informative and the stair climb to look out of 2 little windows of the Big Merino
This anatomically correct concrete sheep is as good a place to stop as any. But get the flock out of there before you get fleeced.
If you're planning to take a break on this stretch of highway then the Big Merino is something different. Popular for a photo opportunity next to it, and good views from inside.
Took our boys into the Big Merino - Lots of information, great staff, awsome views. The gift shop is well set out & clean.
Have had to go to Goulburn since 1987 for various courses etc. I live in the North Coast of NSW and can report that Goulburn has absolutely nothing to offer international tourists. Continue onto Canberra (it's only another 30 odd mins travel) and way more to offer. Goulburn offers a large ram and locals offer rather large chips on their shoulders... that's it.... continue south and spend your hard-earned somewhere in the ACT where it's appreciated and the locals can offer a tad more than "red-neck- attitudes.... The ram attraction is to say the least... yawn!
Very Nice to take Photo with the Giant Sheep, Good stop over for petrol and rest for the trip from Sydney to Canberra.
A visit to Goulburn would not be a proper visit without a trip to the big merino. All facilities you need and ample off street parking. Everyone photographs the front of the merino, but to be different, it has a rear end also. Just as quirky,
There is an at most average exhibition about Australian Wool industry inside the sheep. While some of the facts of the exhibition was a bit interesting, specially regarding the wars, most of it was boring. The sheep is 4 stories tall and you can climb all the way to the top and look out the eyes.
Ok so its a bit old and pointless, but visiting all of the big things in this country is a bit of a bucket list for us..... so Big Merino - tick!
There is no way you can possibly miss this "big" merino if you go anywhere near Goulburn! It is definitely an icon of Goulburn.
ICONIC A must to see.Something different & good variety of soveniers .Kids loved it & so did I.Great for that unique holiday photo.
This is an icon but the question is why.Its big, its free and its unusual. It attracts tourists who want their photo taken in front of it and the best vantage point is on the road.Originally located in a service station further down the road and moved some years ago. It did provide something different for the town I suppose. So if you are visiting off the freeway stop and take a photo of the tourist attraction, fuel up eat and go away happy.
