Rocky Creek Dam is a picturesque asset to this area which I regularly visit. The dam is large and beautiful, with water lilies and surrounded by (largely) native plantings. Provided free of charge are clearly marked walking tracks, boardwalks and bridges, barbecues, a substantial under cover all-weather picnic area with about four fixed large tables and benches, a childrens' playground, expanses of grassy areas, toilets and taps. The area is suitable for families, larger groups, couples, individuals, bush walkers and bird watchers. For bird lovers, the bird life is good. We often identify more than 65 species in a few hours and some are special and/or beautiful like Paradise Riflebirds; Wompoo, Wonga and Rose-crowned Pigeons; Bar-shouldered Doves; Rose-crowned and Brown Fruit Doves; Rainbow and Scaly Breasted Lorrikeets; Varied Trillers; Sulphur-crested Cockatoos; Eastern Rosellas; Olive-backed Orioles; Australian Figbirds; Superb Blue and Red-backed Fairy Wrens; Red-browed Finches; Tawny Grassbirds; Golden-headed Cisticolas and Spangled Drongos to name a few. There are also the usual suspects like the Australian Magpie, Kookaburra, Willy Wagtails, Pied and Grey Butcherbirds, and Pied Currawongs.
A lovely place to go for a picnic and walk. Beautiful views and interesting forest and also a lovely area for children to play and romp.
We drove to this area with our 2 small children and did 2 of the scenic walks. (was possible with a pram) Although we didn't spot any goannas or platypus it was still a gorgeous walk. There is a playground and bbqs -its the perfect spot for a picnic. I agree that a café would be great but you can pick up food and coffees at the neighbouring villages. We picked up some fresh and delicious macadamia nuts on the way at Macadamia direct (Apparently this area is the Macadamia capital of Australia)
Nice place to go if you're after some peace and quiet, but would be nice to sit and have a coffee and a sandwich while taking it al in.
Rocky Creek Dam (near Lismore) is one of our favourite local places to go for a picnic. They have nice lawns and really pretty views over the water (particularly towards sunset). There are also some nice walks to go on as well. Highly recommended when in the area.
Beautiful dam, with surrounding park area. Lots of walks and wildlife. Perfect place to take a picnic and relax. There is a BBQ area and also kids play area.
Rocky Creek offers a number of walks at varying difficulty levels, picnic-style seating and excellent amenities. There is no swimming of course, as the dam is our water supply. There is always wildlife around, including goannas when it is warm and various birds.
Spillway was too wet to cross, but beautiful walks otherwise. There were some areas closed due to rain damage
