Went out for the day to explore this historic area and loved it. Camping is available however we didn't stay the night. Toilets there but bring your own drinking water. Walking tracks taking you to some of the old mining tunnels and other points of interest. Also a lot of old buildings nearby and the old cemetary. Will go back again.

Great little spot to toss a line for some trout and really get away from it all. But an even better spot to sluice / pan up some gold nuggets. Not going to tell you where to get them but the basics all apply - (inside of bends, crevicing bedrock etc) :)Watch out for snakes and mine shafts - as per any heavily worked Gold bearing country.Theres a basic toilet and a water tank for washing (not drinking) right at the river crossing.

Great place to camp and fish nice place in the country small amount to pay to camp but it's really worth it . Toilets Round all kinds of cars can get to it

My son really wanted to go gold panning. I read that Ophir is the first place in Australia where gold was found and officially paid for, so we expected at a minimum a small town, monument, museum or something. There is literally nothing and I mean nothing at all. I would not bother.

We spent a day here taking in the scenery and following the goldfield track 1... it was clearly marked and had some interesting details of what was believed to have happened back in the gold mining era. We tried our hand at gold panning in the little stream, sadly we had no luck but it was fun trying anyhow! It was just a lovely day spend exploring the countryside, which doesn't disappoint on any level! If you were to camp here, expect basic facilities. The toilets however were impeccably maintained.

Just chill time - great pace to contemplate reflect and enjoy time alone or with family or that someone special.

My family have been camping at Ophir for a number of years. Until recently Ophir has been a great affordable place to spend a week or two during the school holidays. The fees have recently been increased from $5 a night to $10 a vehicle, but there has been nothing done to improve the facilities. There is no drinking water, no showers, there is however one female and one male flush toilet but often no toilet paper. In addition to the 100% rise in camping fees there is now a four night limit. Very disappointing.

pack your torches for this adventure, and if your game take along a gold pan too! lots of lovely walks and some history into Australian gold

Nice and exploration and picnic area for the kids! The Ophir Reserve Trust does what it can - please look after this great heritage locality, as some facilities sadly damaged by vandals.

Not my choice of accomodation these days, just the kids have been there camping a few times and like the fact it is the closest place to Orange to camp for a night, near water and free is enough of an incentive. The roads in and out are rough and unsealed, not for the pampered car.

Not alot to do. Was bored after half an hour and the flies were very annoying.

Ophir is a great little camping spot on a small lake. Mostly quiet. Public toilets are available. The ranger collects $5 per person in the morning for staying over night, so great value.
