Plenty of stuff to see and do; give yourselves a few hours to go through it all. If you have young kids, they will have a ball and will be asking a million questions!

Realistic entry fee was a good start. The prison cells display a mixture of collections from the past. The more you look the more you discover so many interesting things. Well worth a visit when in Silverton. Don the caretaker was extremely interesting to talk to.

An impressive collection, well displayed. A great museum, would recommend a visit, it's very interesting, and goes on forever!

20 min drive from brokenhill but well worth a visit this gaol is also a museum charting the history of Silverton and the surrounding area, it is informative and very interesting.

There are a number of gems in this museum, but there is just way too much jammed into the confines of this place, its more a museum about the history of broken hill then anything much to do with the gaol or the prisonners.Entry was cheap at $4 per adult.

If you are into museums this is worth seeing. Crammed full of curios and artefacts from Broken Hill and surrounds, an eaay way to spend a few hours.

This old police station and gaol was jam packed with so many interesting things from all walks of life, so many donated by local people. Give yourself plenty of time to appreciate all this museum has to offer.

We visited this museum in November 2014. The museum is full of interesting memorabilia of the Silverton area, as well as Police and Military antiques. The guide was very knowledgable and friendly. If you visit Silverton, this is a must-see museum.

Very good museum in the ghost town. So much history to take in, they almost need more space if they need to add more stuff. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Must visit to learn about history for a small price of $4.

Once of the most interesting and collection- filled museums I've been to in a long time. An amazing array of stuff in the old goal and courthouse about Broken Hill and Silverton's history.

This museum has a HUGE collection of objects to see. It's a bit overwhelming (and be sure to leave plenty of time!) but was an incredible insight into the lives of real people in the past that can't be learned just from reading historical information. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Silverton.

As you walk around the streets of Silverton and visit the pub for a quick lunch it is then time to venture into this museum. You will be greeted at the door by a couple of locals taking a couple of dollars for admission, and it is worth every cent of entry. There is a lot to absorb here and you will need to have a bit of time to have a good look as this town and attraction has a huge and amazing past. After reading some of the other headings written by others that have visited here, one can assume that these people just didn't get how important this town is to Australias commercial birth. That is why this is a must see, I'm really hoping you visit here and buy the books for sale at the desk when you leave, a really good overview of the area as a whole and a damn good publication.Hope you enjoy it, looking forward to returning here again.

Went for a drive out to Silverton. Alot to take in. Every room filled if paraphernalia from different stages of the past and from this area. The people running it seem very friendly. Worth a look.

So much wasted potential! If you're in Broken Hill then a trip to Silverton is a must. The gaol itself is worth seeing from the outside, however the interior is more than disappointing. Its a ramshackle collection of objects with no theme, and no sense of display. The rooms are so full that its difficult to focus on anything in particular. Its more like a hoader's collection that's been pushed into a small space.Several of the "exhibits" have nothing to do with Silverton, one room has a history of a lady from Chicago who supposedly invented the hair dryer, we even have a display of a guy who shaved his head for charity a few years ago. Quirky I guess - but Silverton history? This needs to be curated properly and the clutter of masonic aprons, marching girl batons, and happy snaps culled and stored away. Great displays like; the Battle of Broken Hill, the gaol itself and its police history and cells need to be given a little bit of space. Whoever is responsible should go and visit Richmond Gaol in Tassie and see how it's done. PS: I'm not from Tassie.

So much to take in, this museum is rooms full of interesting history of the old town and the era it had it's heyday. After a while it is just too much to take in. Brilliantly organised. Do not miss this and allow plenty of time to browse through it picking out the smallest fascinating objects and the facts about them.
