Thanks Peter & Maryanne for another fine dining experience yesterday! So glad Chicken Kashmiri is back on the monthly specials - yesterday's was the best yet! You know how much I love the satay chicken wrap, but yet again, you've managed to convert me to try other menu options (didn't take much). Nothing will replace your apple crumble or your Merlo coffee! Tip for travellers and locals - do yourself a favour and the hard working owners who try to accommodate everybody - take the time to phone and confirm that tables are available for your preferred time. This is a very popular spot on a Sunday for locals and visitors. We have made so many new acquaintances by eating here, almost every Sunday of the year! Team Zelda and Merlot and their servants Peter & Maryanne are hospitality champions.

I've lunched at Captains Paddock twice this month and each time have experienced great service, delicious meals and wine, possibly the best coffee in Kingaroy and a lovely ambience. I usually order from the special's menu, only because they invariably sound so tempting and are often dishes not offered elsewhere in the area. Last visit I had the Morrocan chickpea pilaf with pistachios and haloumi - perfect. Being regulars, we have our ordering preferences and Maryanne always remembers this sort of detail and this is one of of little things that makes a visit special. Maryanne and Pete are great hosts, ably assisted by Zel and Merlot, true wine dogs!

Hi BillThank you for your review. It is always rewarding when our food and hospitality is appreciated. We are very lucky to have such strong local custom and are grateful when you take the time to acknowledge it. It's also pleasing that 50 other people have found your review helpful. We look forward to seeing you on your next visit. Thanks again, Maryanne

Hi KylieI was upset to read your review, as we pride ourselves on respecting and valuing every guest at Captain's Paddock: tourists and local alike. This was obviously not your experience, for which I sincerely apologise. We have served over 300 platters in 2013 and yours is the first negative feedback we have received. We always try to source and showcase local produce, however for many reasons, this is not always possible. The salami and olives were not local, but certainly not from Coles. The peanuts were local and the two condiments (chardonnay jelly and balsamic onion marmalade) were made here on site. Most people enjoy the the variety of product and comment on the value our platter represents. I'm sorry it did not meet your expectations. The parmesan we use is Millel Superior Fresh Grated Parmesan, which was awarded Best in Class, World Championship Cheese Contest, with a Gold Medal in 2008. I'm sorry it's not to your liking. As I don't know what your partner had as a main, I can't respond. We thoroughly clean the toilet facility at the start of each day and again if a guest notifies us that it needs attention. If you had taken the time to tell me it was unsatisfactory, I would have attended to it immediately. I apologise for not replacing your water, which is inexcusable. We were exceptionally busy between Christmas and New Year and on the Sunday had done over 65 meals in 43 degree heat, including an 80th birthday group of 40 people. I don't expect you to understand the ins and outs of running a hospitality business, however we were under the pump to put it mildly. The fact that you had not booked did not help. This does not excuse my apparent rudeness, but may help explain it. Again, please accept my unreserved apology.

The South Burnett Region of Queensland is renowned for it's many vineyards & wineries and one of the best is Captains Paddock Vineyard (includes Café & B&B) at 18 Miller's Road Kingaroy - travel north along the Bunya Highway from Kingaroy and follow the signs. Mine hosts, Peter and Maryanne, offer visitors the unique opportunity to experience the local wines, food & coffee, and their hospitality at it's very best whilst taking the beautiful valley views. The Café & Cellar Door is open 7 days a week 10am-5pm and all visitors are welcome and most importantly to taste their vast range of wines including the Chardonnay, Shiraz and Merlot blends. The vineyard participates in the annual Kingaroy Wine and Food in the Park Festival held every 2nd Saturday in March. Spend a whole day here in the relaxed bush atmosphere for morning tea, a delightful lunch (menu provides a good variety of meals) and afternoon tea - you will enjoy yourself immensely.Contact Details: 07 41624534 Fax: 07 41624502 Email: wine@captainspaddock.com.auWeb: www.captainspaddock.com.au

We only stopped by for morning tea and to buy some wine. The coffee and scones were very good. The shiraz jelly that came with the scones was delicious. The winery and café are in a very picturesque setting. Checked out the accommodation and it looks very comfortable.

The charm of this place starts when driving in. The tree lined road with the vineyard on either side is serene. The cellar door feels like you are in Italy with its red stone work and crawling vines. The owners are a perfect fit-welcoming and accommodating. The meals are yummy, the desserts are delectable, the cheese platters are superb, the scones are classic and the coffees are excellent. Because I don't live to far away, I have been there a few times- can you tell. I have been know to bring a friend with me to chat it up or bring a book or catch up on current affairs from one of their newspapers. It is my brief escape from the real world.

If you want to have a rest with a cup of coffee and enjoy some shaded gardens and a break from the town of Kingaroy, this is ok. The owners are very "businesslike" and a bit blase. When we sampled some of the wines but could not find anything to our taste the atmosphere became even cooler. So we decided to have a meal and a coffee - great disappointment. Both meals we ordered were based on same "mince" with just a dash of a different sauce. The "whatever wine" pie was an open filo pastry with just some mince thrown into it with not seasonings, nothing but plain mince with a bit of red wine; the other dish was with same filling and definitely not gourmet. A frozen pie would have been better. Will not go back. Crane Wines in the area are less pretentious but so delightfully welcoming.
