This bar is in the shabby-grand old Midland Hotel near the railway station. It's large in scale and has a marvellous Art Deco/Oriental décor with some fine decorative artefacts. Your host's name is Mauro, so 'Maurocco' is a play on Morocco and Mauro. The bar opens during the day for people wanting coffees and snacks, while also serving as the breakfast venue for hotel guests; and in the evenings it caters for drinkers and sometimes offers live music. However the opening days and hours are restricted, so check ahead. On my visit (over a long weekend) I saw groups of locals enjoying the bar for late-morning coffees and teas. There are comfortable communal seating arrangements near the fireplace, a number of smaller tables, and an outdoors area.
