a big hippo yawning and that's exactly what it looks like, loved it. A bit of a walk to get down to it, but well worth it.
Only stopped here quickly but it does look like a hippo yawning.Worth the visit as it is close by before retiring to the place for lunch.
Just a short walk on from Wave Rock is Hippos Yawn. It is worth the walk and is very cool inside the hippos mouth. Take water with you when you do this walk as it is hot and there is not water available along the track
this whole area is amazing and worth the visit, remember aerogard though as the flys can be bad if no wind, the walks can be as easy or as hard as you like, something for everyone.
We took a few pictures and we were on our way back to Perth. not something fantastic. It was alright.
Saw this on the way to Wave Rock. If not would have given this a missI did not manage to read further information on the geography of this place
Hippos yawn is found about 2 Km around the base of wave rock. It is a pleasant bush walk in the morning before it gets too hot. On the walk there are signs explaining the vegetation and you get to see several varieties of wildflowers (in spring). Also there are some interesting shapes on the sides of wave rock to observe.
Hippo's Yawn is a large tafone which certainly does look like a big hippo's mouth. Nice walk on a sunny day to see it if you are visiting Wave Rock.
It is a short walk or drive from Wave Rock - you can drive right to it. I think the whole area is best seen by walking from one site to another.
Well worth the walk from the Park. Good signage and good information on how the rock has formed. Recommended.
Stayed in Hyden as it was halfway on our trip from Perth to Esperance, visited Hippos Yawn as part of the trip. Nice walk & interesting rock formation to visit.
It's so a Hippo, very big, easily accesible by car or walking. Wild flowers were out which made it even more pleasant.
Awesome to see in real life, hard to get a good picture that shows it is obviously a 'hippo's yawn' due to the amount of bushland around it. Easy access and lots of parking.
Reminded me of the board game, Hungry Hippos. Very unique landform. Worth visiting alongside Wave Rock. There is a pathway that links the two.
As far as geological formations go, Hippo's Yawn is definitely a poor relation to its superstar neighbour Wave Rock. But it is literally around the corner, so if you've come all this way to see the superstar, you may as well check out the Hippo as well. It's worth a gawk and a few snaps.
