beautiful and historic church. We found while we were driving on the highway, we decided to go inside and we got a good experience.

This little church dates back to the mid 1500's. It is a favourite place to get married for people all over Ecuador. Great to see the colonial architecture of these early places built by the Spaniards. Nearby is the Colta Lagoon, another Ecuadorian landmark. You could visit this church on your way to Riobamba, Ambato, Baños and many other places driving from the coast.

The church of La Balbanera was constructed in 1524, making it the oldest church constructed by the Spaniards in EcuadorIt is the oldest catholic church in Ecuador founded on August 15, 1534 built by the Spaniards in colonial style. The church is dedicated to the most holy Virgin Mary Nativity Balbanera. This church sits behind a low stone wall. It has a stone facade with a large arched doorway, supported by two columns. Even if you can't get inside the church, stop and take a look at the exterior; it is a very holy place.

I live about 1km away from this church and really hope to help Colta improve tourism to Balbanera as well as the Laguna de Colta right across the highway. Next to the church is an artisanal market (with some of the best prices in Ecuador). The church is a great attraction, especially with so many other attractions surrounding it. No fee for the church unless you want to buy a candle. The Lake is $.50 entrance; sometimes they charge $1 for tourists.

On the main road 17km outside Riobamba you will pass this little church. It is the oldest catholic church in Ecuador founded on August 15, 1534 built by the Spaniards in colonial style. Just inside the entrance is a painting of an earthquake that hit this area in the 1790's. On the horizon behind it is the wonderful snowy peak of Chimborazo volcano.

Es la primera iglesia del ecuador, ademas muestra el emplazamiento de la ahora ciudad de Riobamba, es un lugar hermoso, ojala les toque un buen dia de sol, al lao hay un centro de artesania la balbanera en donde pueden encontras tejidos y mucho mas a precios realmente buenos

El dueño del Hotel Glamour me recomendó conocerla y fue quien me llevó a conocerla en una excursión donde él es el guía

A voir seulement si on passe par là (près de Colta). Petite église (à peine plus grande qu'une chapelle) reconstruite par les indigènes après le dernier grand tremblement de terre. La façade a été recomposée avec les pierres retrouvées "plic ploc", donc erreurs amusantes à découvrir.

Es una pequeña iglesia que data de aproximadamente hace poco más de 400 años. La ubicación es cerca a una bella laguna.

Al llegar a Cajabamba entrando al camino a Riobamba uno se topa con esta joya de la cultura colonial. Excelente para los amantes de este tipo de construcciones. Eso si llevar abrigo ya que esta en el páramo.

Es la primera iglesia construida el 15 de agosto de 1534 en el periodo de la conquista española.Su estructura se mantiene con los elementos que utilizaron en aquella época; como lo son su fachada y paredes laterales han permanecido intactas a través del tiempo y de haber sobrevivido a temblores a lo largo del tiempo.Vale la pena conocerla está iglesia que esta camino a Riobamba.

Étant donné qu'il n'y a pas grand chose à voir à Riobamba , alors évadez vous a quinze km sur la route de GUAMOTE, voir la plus vielle chapelle d'equateur consacrée le 15 août 1534.Façade d'origine calcaire relevée à l'identique après un tremblement de terre.La chapelle minuscule est au pied du gigantesque CHIMBORAZO.Intérieur sobre avec un autel primitif en pierre évoquant une pyramide précolombienne.N'oubliez pas de voir à droite de la chapelle une vierge ceinte d'un châle andin et portant un chapeau de feutre andin.Côté pratique: pour vous y rendre prendre un bus à partir du terminal cantonal , bus pour GUAMOTE. Demandez à descendre à la lagune de COLTA. Coût du trajet 2$ AR Sinon vous pouvez prendre un taxi coût AR environ 15 a 20 $ avec l'attente sur place d'une demi heure.Troiseme solution. Vous y rendre par le train touristique, coût 15 $,par personne, mais fonctionnement selon horaire se renseigner à la " esta ion" de RIOBAMBA
