Bathroom breaks are at a premium and it was great to have a clean bathroom. The views of town are wonderful. You get your bearings and get to appreciate the residents' lives. You nite that churches hear are conservative and simply adorned little if any stained glass due to the cold. If you come this way the doors are open to you as are the people just say takk.

Visiting the church is a great photo spot and gives you a nice view of the town, the old part of it, and the newer part of it.

We took a few minutes to visit the modern white church in Stykkisholmur. The architecture is modern, and the interior and exterior features both fit in with the landscape. The organ is like a work of art--we were sorry not to hear it. We could also see the Chuch from the ferry--its setting is lovely. Free to visit....only takes a few minutes. Well worth it.

We stopped here for lunch and a walk. Buildings tidy and well maintained, everyone smiling it seemed. Took in the volcano museum which has interesting minerals and volcano centric art, some pieces quite powerful. This is an active harbour town and there is lots to see. Worth a visit

Beautiful organ and I loved the austere interior. The view from the top is very nice (but be prepared for wind)

I just adore Icelandic church architecture. This church is another great example and has a great view over the sea and Stykkisholmur. Apparently has great acoustics but was closed the day we went.

The Vatnasafn Library of Water is a unique museum, created by an artist, Roni Horn. It includes columns of glacial water from each of Iceland's 13 glaciers (now there are only 12 left, due to global warming). The views overlooking the town and harbor alone are worth the visit, and the artistic nature of the columns' placement and the words on the floor make it an ideal visit. The red-headed docent has a lovely operatic voice, and may show off the fine acoustics for you.

of Icelandic modern architecture, and the view towards Styykis harbour is great. Nevertheless, we still prefer the smaller but more unique "triangular" church in Olafsvik. Don't miss it if you're doing the Snaefellsnes round trip.

worth visiting not just due to unusual (for churches) shapes and outfits, but also for the view over the town and harbour.

New church. Nice tomsee that in Iceland they still build them. Back home we don't know what to do with them anymore. Even the organ was brand new.

I used the opportunity to go to a really great organ concert in the Stykkisholms church. The church is even more beautiful when you get closer. It is a landmark of Stykkisholmur both from sea and land. Around 300 people can sit in the church which is unusually shaped It has a beautiful and peaceful the altar piece painted by Icelandic painter Kristín Gunnlaugsdóttir which shows Maria carrying the child Jesus. The church is well known for its fine acoustics and musical events are on regular basis. There is a brand new Klais church organ with 22 stops. They often have organ concerts in the summer time. I did not attend a service there, but the church is beautiful.

The Stykkishulmskirkja is one of the unusual churches you may find in Iceland, and a one you can't avoid when getting to this lovely city. Tips: (A) Don't estimate it from a far. Get close and enjoy the peculiar design. (B) Go there both early in the morning for sunrise, and also for sunset. (C) Check when services are scheduled, the acoustic in very interesting. (D) Don't miss a visit to the seamen monument at the harbor.

When planning our trip to Iceland I found this lovelylooking church and learnt about their famous organ. I started to find out more about the organ builder from Germany. After that I even more wanted to visit this church. But was there a service that day? We chose a Sunday to be sure. Then we just had to find out the time for the service that day. There is a home page, but it does not tell such things as service times. I really tried to find out! In the end I wrote to the organ builder in Germany for help. Very helpful I recieved some links and addresses. I also wrote to information centres, which did not help. Here is some information if you are searching like I was:Phone number to the church : +354 438 1560Email address to the pastor is: gunnareir@simnet.isOr try this: kirkjan@kirkjan.isAll this information was from Marketing & Visit IcelandBefore this I got other valuable information which told me that there was NO SERVICE that Sunday and no organ concerts either. (There were some brass bands practicing, so we could at least enter the church.)We were of course very disappointed! But maybe you are more lucky. Now you can at least find out if there is something going on in this church. Good luck!

It looks really interesting, modern and also reminiscent of a viking ship. Looks great from the small island across from the harbor with the mountains behind, adds to the charm of an already charming town.

The outside of this building is remarkable. It is located on a hill so it can be easily seen. We were able to see the interior in the morning whereas most sights are closed ,
