During the summer is a very crowded beach, not a good choice if you want to relax and enjoy the silence. The water is very clear, good for snorkeling.
I was fall in love with this place, sea is just amazing. the only thing is it was quite crowded, familes with kids, lots of noise... You should go there when its not so busy, not in the middle of summer maybe beginning or the end of season. sunrise, sunset everthing was just glamorous :)
History of Thassos The Citadel in Limenas Thassos The island now known as the "Emerald Isle" because of its rich vegetation and lush forests, which have made the place a wonderful tourist destination. Since ancient times, the island was known for its power and influence throughout the known world. The Athenians, Spartans, Persians and Romans had recognized the place as "the Athens of the North". Rich in minerals and natural resources and strategically located on the main shopping street which connects the East and Central Greece, the island has always been a target invaders and conquerors, who were trying to conquer it whenever the opportunity arises. To further explore the fascinating history of the island, a good starting point would be the archaeological museum in Thassos Town (known locally as Port). While considered one of the greatest museums in our country, we suggest you visit during your stay on the island. The range and variety of exhibits includes from monumental sculptures to the most elaborate ancient jewelry have been found in excavations throughout the island. As the visitor moves from room to room, have the opportunity to follow the history of Thassos unfolding before his eyes, in chronological order throughout the breadth and majesty and so gain a fascinating insight into this historically important place. The Port is the modern capital of the island, as it was in ancient times, which becomes apparent when the visitor explores the city, as in every corner, coming face to face with the remnants of the ancient past. The main archaeological sites are the market (old market), and the sanctuaries of the gods Hercules, Bacchus, Diana and Neptune. Going up to the Acropolis which also offers great views of the city and the bay below, you will find the ancient theater, the ruins of the temples of Apollo and Athena and the sanctuary of Pan. Making a tour of the city and within easy walking distance of the town are the ruins of the imposing walls that were built to a height of 9 m and the principal material of the white marble of Thassos. Admire the impressive boulders, placed with such precision next to each other, that even today, a credit card can not be inserted between them !!! Admire these very robust defensive structures, the consistency is interrupted by elaborately decorated gateways, which allow visitors to spend the fairytale, made of white marble, Thassos Town.
By the geo position of the bay, water is allways calm and clear. We were in Thassos at the end of the July 2014. When other beaches were choppy, Aliki was calm and clear. It is crowded but you could allways find a spot for your umbrella. You could use existing umbrellas and sunbeds. An umbrella and two sunbeds are rented for € 5,00 for all daylong. If you order from beach cafe, they do not charge for them.
This beach was amazing , the water is unbelievable! There were only 4 or 5 restaurants or taverns i should say and we ate at 2 , the food wasn't that good, the personal were very annoying with calling us to their restaurant. Other than that the beach is amazing !
Crystal clear water and i really enjoyed this beach. I would rated 5 stars if it had been less people there.
Very lovely beach in grandious location with ancient history ruins, tavernas, but really much people.
Beach with a nice view and crystal water. Taverns around have good food. Near Aliki Beach is Archangelou Monastery that must be visited.
If you travel independently get there early before the tour buses ,we had with us Tony Oswin's guide book with us and it was a real treat . The peninsular is a well worth staying for lunch .
Best beach on Thassos. It is located in the bay, where the sea is very calm and no wind which is often at other beaches. There are several tavernas with good food. Prices are slightly higher than the towns restaurants.
It is indeed a beautiful beach. The water has a splendid color. A good place too snorkel. Beware of Sea urchin! There are rocks and the little black devils like too play hide and seek. You should go there while you are in Thassos. For my taste it was a little bit too crowded and for the sunbeds you have too pay a little more than at other places.
nice beach but for the sunbeds have to spend 35 euros for lunch.. water is clean but too crowded in season
nice beach, colourfull, beautiful see and so many people. We spend one day there and passed few more times, every time it was full of people. Thassos have so many good beaches so we didn't want to spend more time although the beach is great. There are several restaurants on the beach. Next to the beach is nice archeological site and one more small beach.Good to see, spend some time but nothing more because of the crowd.
We went there in the afternoon and swam until the sunset, so it was empty and calm. While we were passing by car around 12 we saw many boats anchored in the bay and tour buses parked. Probably all the boat trips have a swimming stop there, that's why they say it's crowded; so in the high season I recommend early in the morning or late in the afternoon. We also saw Marble Beach' and 'Golden Beach', Aliki was definately better than them.
The sea is beautiful and clear as crystal. The place we rented on our first day was reasonable (3 euros) but the second place, on the right side of the beach was expensive and it's staff were rude. I recommend Dimitri's place. During my time, I sunbathed on rocks and found many colorful sea urchins. It was very nice but a bit crowded.
