An excellent venue for an afternoon of strolling among an extensive collection of regional art work.. The facility is well maintained and the staff is friendly and accommodating..
This art museum is surprising eclectic in the variety of artist's work on display. It is just the right size that someone using a walker or cane can make it though; plus there are places to sit and enjoy the art. I find that I quite like to sit and just look at a piece of art for a while. There is an elevator from the parking to museum. Thus parents with strollers or folks with wheelchairs can easily enjoy this unsung treasure in the heart of Augusta.
Can be hard to find, but you must. It has a wonderful collection of art one is displayed very well. It takes 1 to 2 hours and is just great.
This is anie museum with adecentarray of moderninterpretive art, went toa spanish jazzperformance, they could improvethe acosutics but overall a nice place to enjoy the visual and audioarts
First enjoy the interesting story & ship drawings at the top of the entrance stairs. Nice selection of art organized by category. Some special exhibits. Good gift shop. Convenient to Marriott hotel & River walk.
I understand the purpose of security here, but he can lay off too. I think someone would notice if you walked out with a painting. Just let people walk through on their own without being hovered over like thieves.
If you are traveling or live near Augusta, Georgia, you need to spend some time at the Morris Museum of Art. Check ahead of time as they have a lot of thing going on during the year in addition to the current exhibits. For its size it is a wonderful place to visit.
Unique place but the security guard follows you around like you are some sort of criminal. It kind of makes you just want to get out of there more than enjoy the paintings and take in the history associated with each one.
The Morris Museum of Art's mission is to exhibit art produced by Southern artists or which depict the South regardless of the artist's origin. It's draw for me has always been the traveling exhibitions which it gets. The permanent collection is displayed in limited space and gives you enough of the various eras though space is limited. They have a significant collection of intuitive or outsider art only a small portion of which is displayed. However its presence in the collection seems to make a the Morris more open to art of this type in its traveling repertoire. It's on the river walk, and is an inexpensive museum that has an approachable collection, helpful staff, an interesting store and a pleasant, informative way to while away an hour and a half or two.
Decent museum for the price. Definitely worth a visit. Enjoyed the mommy and me classes quite a few times.
The Morris Museum has some of the best Southern art! We always get an email when they get a new exhibit. The staff there is super nice, and they even have strollers for the little ones. Well worth the trip.
With 10 permanent exhibits complemented with 4 featured exhibits, the Morris is well worth its $5 admission. The pieces are a window into the authentic Southern stories of the past as well as a look into the future with “Abstraction in the South”. The museum itself is a marvel; just avoid the cliché gift shop which degrades the entire experience.
In addition to an amazing permanent collection, this jewel hosts travelling exhibits, and events e.g films, concerts and other artistic activities. I go there as often as possible, and always recommend it to out of town visitors!
If you are in the area of Augusta, the Morris Museum downtown is the place to go to see great art. Two things make this museum unique - 1. the small room spaces makes it cozy, like a comfortable old southern sitting room. - 2. They have one of the best collections of southern impressionism in the country. When we visited there was a collection of folk art that was expertly laid out in the galleries. Well worth a visit while walking around the riverfront.
The Morris Museum of Art is the premier museum of Southern Art. The collection is superb and the programs for members is exceptional. The print fair in January is a very special event with one of the kind prints and print makers. The Gala, the first Friday in March, is the most, coveted fundraiser in the area. Beautiful museum for everyone.
