I initially felt that 13 days on the river would be too long and that I would miss my phone, emails and a clean bathroom but by the end of the trip I was reluctant to return to the real world. The scenery is amazing and it was lovely to get up each morning knowing that all I had to do was enjoy being in such a special place and get myself down the river in one piece (not easy at some points!). The guides were the best that I have every come across, unfailingly helpful and friendly and extremely quick to deal with any crisis on the river. The food was delicious - as good on the last day as the first - fantastic steaks and tuna and home made cakes most evenings. I will never forget sleeping out under a huge canopy of stars, listening to the rushing water. Thank you to all the guides and especially Orea, for being such fun.
Awesome, memorable, and I want to come back with my family to share the experience. Where else do you find such a great outdoor adventure, scenery, white water, and being away from cell phones for a couple of weeks.Superb in everyway, guides, food and camping. Don't hesitate do this trip just once in your life.
This is an experience of a lifetime and the only way to see the Grand Canyon. From the first day to the last day (13 days in total) the Grand Canyon is majestic and awesome, and although it comes with its perils the first class guides, their experience and expertise takes away the anxieties that would normally be associated with such an outdoor expedition. It is a White Water Rafting Trip and is therefore not for the faint hearted, but the guides are so professional and dedicated and knowledgeable so they put everyone at ease. A special mention to Ben whose depth of knowledge of the history and geology is incredible and to Orea who just is the best ever guide that I have ever met. One final compliment is the food wow wow wow, how do they produce such fantastic food all from a few rafts Well done Outdoors Unlimited you are amazing!
Amazing. The best trip we have ever done and we have done a lot. The trip of a lifetime. First class guides, great food and frightening rafting. Not for the nervous. Campsites were all stunning.
We spent 9 days rafting down the Colorado with Outdoor Unlimited Rafting company. Not only is the Grand Canyon an amazing place to be Outdoor Unlimited made it a incredibly special trip. The guides were the best I have ever experienced. From explaining safety to the side trips to the knowledge of the Grand Canyon to keeping our kids happy, they went above and beyond in every way. They were able to make my 11 year old feel like she could do anything and they made my 13 years daredevil of a son feel like he was on top of the world. And on top of that we all learned so much about Geology and the ecosystems of the Grand Canyon. The food was diverse, fresh and tasty. The rafts, tents, pads and lifejackets were all top notch. At the end of trip the 21 people on this trip felt like family. The 7 children that were on this trip are still communicating. We will never forget this trip!
The trip was truly outstanding. I would (and already have) recommend it to anyone who likes the outdoors and a little adventure. The guides were in their rafting experience, their knowledge of the canyon and its history and geology and their care of us. Lastly the was incredible. I loved the rapids. You will get wet and appreciate it. Also the was great with steaks and pork chops and enchiladas, etc.
My family took the 9 day raft trip on Colorado River in the lower half of the Grand Canyon. We hiked in on the Bright Angel trail and were greeted at the end of the hike by the river guides from Outdoors Unlimited. From that point on, every detail of the journey was handled by the staff. it was absolutely top notch. The guides were exceptionally knowledgeable about the geology of the canyon, the flora and fuana of the region and the cultural traditions of the original Native Americans. In addition, the meals were exceptional and not what one would expect on a camping trip. For example, yellow fin tuna grilled to perfection was on the menu one night followed by one of the best filets I have ever had the next night! Best of all, the guides created a very fun and safe environment. Their expertise and experience through some monster rapids was a difference maker. It is hard to fully appreciate this until you are on the river and realize that this is not Disney World. There is a definite element of risk involved. I was indeed comforted by the fact that our guides had run many of the most technical rivers throughout the world ( China, Pakistan, Idaho, California...the list goes on) in addition to logging in excess of 50 trips each down the Colorado in the Grand Canyon. Outdoors Unlimited hires the best guides around with a track record of safety. Additionally, the guides enjoy working for the company and sought employment with this company in particular. A happy guide is a good guide and makes for a great trip! These guys are pros! One other note that might be helpful to know is that we were in a group of 21 people. That group happened to be made up of 6 families that had never met before. There were 7 kids on the trip ranging in age from 11 years old to 17 years old. The adults ages ranged from 28 to 68 years old. All had a fantastic time and interacted extremely well. The guides were terrific with everyone and especially made the kids feel part of an adventure of a lifetime. I cannot begin to express how fantastic the entire experience was for our entire family. This is one trip that my daughter who is 16 will tell her future kids about!
What an amazing experience. This company could not have done any better to ceate an unbelievable experience. The majestic beauty of the Canyon speaks for itself and the compnay made the expereince seamlessly well-organised and really special. Enthusiastic and enerjetic staff made my time on the river very memorable.
We did the bottom half 9 day trip hiking down the Bright Angel trail. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable, and fun. I would highly recommend these rafting trips over the power-boat trips, it might take longer but it makes the rapids much more exciting and enjoyable, and lets you relax during the down time period when the river is more relaxed. The scenery everywhere was nothing short of epic, it's something I found myself unable to describe to friends. The food they made was what most surprised me. We had a snack before both breakfast and dinner, and always had dessert. There was always fresh water and gatorade available, some of the food we ate included Ahi Tuna steaks, Filet Mignon, and Enchiladas.Quite simply, this is a trip I will be telling my family about for years to come. The company was excellent, as were their guides and the hikes. Would recommend and encourage anyone to choose Outdoors Unlimited any time.
You can see from the reviews below that folks are so grateful and psyched about this trip with this company. I read these reviews before I traveled and knew I'd be safe and well fed and in a beautiful place. What I didn't realize is how the canyon itself would strip me down to my purest and most vulnerable and beautiful self. To spend a week (or next time, two!) in such a powerful place is to COME HOME. Outdoors Unlimited has somehow rounded up the most skilled, knowledgeable, kind, and fun people on the planet to get you down the river with great stories, adventures, and an endlessly full belly (don't think you'll loose weight!) By the end of our lower river trip, we were more like a family making a timeless memory together. Do bring: Sarong, quick dry pants, lots of moisturizing sunscreen, and a journalDon't bring: your calendar, your phone, an agenda With Gratitude,Heather Yardsale Briscoe
My husband and I just returned from the full 14 day trip. We had such an amazing experience. Our guides were top notch. We counted over 200 years of Grand Canyon rafting experience between the 4 guides and 2 crew. The guides took such great care of us; they took us on interesting and beautiful side excursions, fed us terrific meals and led us through the rapids safely. I had watched way too many you tube videos of rafts flipping at Lava Falls before I left and was very scared. I can tell you that these rafts weren't Outdoor Unlimited rafts. With Outdoors Unlimited, I felt safe at all times even through the treacherous but incredibly fun Lava Falls. I want to do Lava again!!! (My advice if you go is to bring a lot of moisturizing cream since the air is so dry.)
I did the lower part of the trip. It went for 9 days and the only thing that I regret is not doing the full trip. The guides on the trip were about as grand as the canyon itself; They were funny, intelligent, and passionate for what they did. The rafting was exciting, the hikes were memorizing, and the food was the ultimate reward after a full day of exploring. If you're going to see The Grand Canyon, this is the only way to see it properly.
I just returned from the 8-9 day lower Grand Canyon paddle rafting trip and can't seem to wipe the smile off my face. Outdoors Unlimited provided an excellent guided trip down the Grand Canyon that cannot be beat! The river guides always made me feel safe and informed and were a blast to hang out with at camp! The food, oh the food... you will not go hungry here! We were served filet mignon, fajitas, grilled salmon, marinated pork just to name a few. There was always fresh produce at every meal and the guides were happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions. I would highly recommend any one needing to "unplug" to do this trip! You will return from your trip refreshed and full of gratitude!
This was one of my favorite trips ever, of anywhere I've traveled. The Canyon is of course majestic, and this was a wonderful way to see it. OU really has it down with great food, great staff, efficient and organized packing, hikes and rafting. The staff was fun and accomodating, friendly and knowledgeable and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Loved it!
We recently retuned from an 8 day paddling trip of the lower Grand Canyon with Outdoors Unlimited. The trip was excellent in all regards and I would highly recommend Outdoors Unlimited. The guides were knowledgeable, skilled, personable and went out of their way to make the trip enjoyable for all the participants. The equipment was well maintained and the trip was safely conducted. The food on the trip was excellent and greatly exceeded our expectations. Importantly, Outdoors Unlimited went out of their way to accomodate my daughter's food allergy and cannot be commended enough for their efforts. Overall the trip was amazing. We look forward to another rafting Grand Canyon Trip in the future and will book with Outdoors Unlimited again.
