We like visiting lighthouses, and Pensacola Lighthouse is certainly worth visiting, especially on a pretty, sunny day. The fee to visit the museum and climb to the top is reasonable. The 177 steps to the top can be taken at your own pace with stops to rest if needed. Several windows provide a view on the way up, but they desperately need cleaning. Once at the top, the views from the outside platform are clear and a little windy. An obliging employee took our picture for us -- not your average vacation photo. The lens is still in place and rotating which makes this lighthouse worth the climb. Back downstairs, we took time to check out the museum in the lighthouse keeper's house -- it's upstairs and in the basement as well as on the main floor.Pensacola Lighthouse is on the naval base just across the road from the Naval Air Museum. An entire day can easily be devoted to these two stops.

When I was stationed there you could climb up to the top where the fresnel lens is that disperses the bright beacon light. I think it is on the National Register of Historical places...

Located on the Pensacola Naval Air Station, you must show picture ID to enter. The lighthouse itself is well-preserved. 177 steps to climb were too many for this senior citizen, but my wife and I visited the museum and bought our lighthouse replica and fridge magnet. They are also asking for voluntary contribution to help with lighthouse maintenance. If you want to climb to top, there is a fee.Seeing this lighthouse made the trip from Destin very worthwhile!

177 steps to the top on a sprial staircase - wow - it is like stepping into part of history. You can really understand what it would have been like for the Lighthouse Keeper lugging 35 pounds of lamp oil up those stairs each day. We had a five year old and nine year old - and we made it to the top easily. DON'T WEAR FLIP FLOPS. They are not allowed by Coast Guard regulations, so a couple of us had to go bare foot. There are some cool artifacts to see in the museum. Price was 20 dollars for a family of four. For the memory it is worth every penny! It is easy to enter the naval base, so don't let that hold you back!

Interesting. This well kept jewel is must see. History trip even if you don't climb the 177 steps to the top.

The climb to the top was breath taking! The staff was so easy to talk to and very approachable. Beautiful gift shop! I have recommended friends and family a must see!

The history of this building is so cool. Everyone should go. It is a beautiful lighthouse. Plus you get to see the Blue Angels when they are in town.

Experience and Enjoy of the U.S. Blue Angels practice for airshow perfomance on some time of the years and practice at eye level from the catwalk of the Lighthouse. You can try to Hunt for ghosts in the Keeper's room and instalation. Some people declare undying love, and ask for marriage in the beautiful sunsets at the most romantic view on the Gulf Coast. All those activities You need to find and see the planning events , and pick up the calender day .

Toured many lighthouses around the country. This one is well cared for, lots of interesting data given by the volunteers. Very high climb up the circular stairs if you have height issues, but well worth he 150 step climb.Fantastic view and a beautiful lens

We had a marvellous visit here with our friend who lived here as a boy with his step dad the lighthouse keeper. It was lovely to see the rooms where he did his homework and to see his photo there with his dog. We climbed to the top, which was fine for us but could be quite strenuous if you are not fit. The view was superb and the lovely guide up there told us lots of interesting facts. It was really enjoyable. We then walked on the beach and watched the sun setting. Fabulous!

Excellent historic lighthouse. It's a bit spendy, but worth it to me. We enjoyed the keepers quarters tour. Lighthouse is 160+ steps to the top. Walked out on the surrounding cat walk at the top and wow, what a view. To be fair, it made it even cooler for me to see combat jets doing touch-and-go's nearby. Beautiful view from the top - just amazing. Would recommend for older children and adults.

Was definitely worth the trip. Be prepared to climb almost 200 steps to get to the top. I'm athletic and still could feel the workout my knees got.

We drove out to the Pensacola Lighthouse, which is located in the Navy base!....We were there on Sunday, and the lighthouse isn't open on Sunday, but we did get to walk around the grounds and enjoy the outside of the lighthouse and the beautiful old mansion beside it that is the Pensacola Lighthouse Museum. The beach is nearby, and there are areas that you are allowed to walk on the beach.

The Lighthouse is a really beat attraction for anyone, but my kids loved it. It's a great quick stop if you're already visiting the Naval Aviation Museum since the Lighthouse is so close. There is a small admission. On a beautiful day you can see really far out over the Gulf, and can also watch planes landing at the base. It's a steep climb so if you have problems with heights or vertigo, the 177 (I think) steps won't be for you.

If you have sandals you will be carrying them up the whole 177 steps up! Sandals and flip flops are "tripping hazards" so wear real shoes. Gift shop is a great place to get a last minute bottled water or soda. Their wood magnets are great. Great view from the top, but things to see, if you don't make the trek up. Most hotels have a dollar off coupon that looks like a lighthouse (for everyone in your party!)
