We go to a lot air museums since my husband was a flight engineer in the service and my Dad was a pilot in World War II. This is by far the best air museum we have visited. We spent 3 hours there one afternoon then went back the next morning for 5 hours. We did not tour the outdoor exhibits. We recommend the Blue Angels IMAX movie.
This museum is wonderful. It is free and you could spend hours and never get bored. My children ages 7, 5, and 2 had the best time. My only advice is do not eat at the cafe. I ordered the peanut butter and jelly sandwich for my children. I was given peanut butter, jelly, bread, and a knife and had to make the sandwich myself????
Every time I go to Pensacola I make it a point to go the the museum. They continue to add more and more displays. Make it a 2 day visit if you go....
After reading all these wonderful reviews I knew we had to go but wasn't sure we would stay long! I was wrong. My husband, 5 and 8 year old had a great afternoon. We were there for about 4 hours and still didn't it all. We joined the tour and the volunteer brought the planes to life through his stories. They were even better because he had actually fought and flown some of them. Wow. Great day
So thrilled to be so close to so many great pieces of history. Have not met a kid yet that wasn't in complete awe of the musuem
MUST SEE!!!!!! If there is only one thing you can do while on vacation to Pensacola Beach - this needs to be it because wow it is tremendous. So much history packed into this immaculate space. Wonderful exhibits, great for all ages! Many cockpits for you to sit in and pretend. The Cubi Cafe has a delicious homemade apple pie. It is easily accessible for being located on a naval base. Come early, it is easy to spend many hours looking and you'll want plenty of time.
This is the home of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels!!! There is SO much to do, and most of it is free!!! This is a very good place for young and old alike. Educational and informative!!! Free guided tours are given at regular intervals. Many of the planes on display are the actual ones from the various genres, such as the Marine One helicopter used by Nixon to the plane that George W landed on the carrier to actual Blue Angels jets, some available for photo opts!!! Definitely worth a few hours of your vacation time!!!
The Navy has out done itself with the way the museum is set up. My wife and I wonder around for hours and the price was even better, -0- cost. All types from WW1 to current were on display.
Planes, planes and more planes! If you like vintage planes, visit this museum. Although there is no entrance fee to this museum, there ARE fees for the IMAX films and the plane simulators. We didn't take the free guided tour but found our way around pretty well. The displays mainly interest veterans and other airplane fans; others might find it less interesting and a bit redundant. Seeing Nixon's Marine One helicopter was a bonus. Although the IMAX movie had some fabulous video, it appeared to serve mainly as a recruiting tool for the Blue Angels. The story of the Blue Angel training was interesting but more information about the history of flying would have been appreciated. Overall, an excellent experience!
My wife and I recently visited the Naval Aviation Museum on the Naval Air Station in Pensacola Fl. What a great time for both of us. Great for men and women. We were only going to be there for a couple of hours at most. We spent more than that on a tour given by a retired Marine Colonel pilot. He went thru flight school in 1953 so he was able to talk knowledgably about aviation from that period to today. Super job on his part. I made sure to thank him for his service too. I tried the ride offered to simulate the Blue Angels and Iraq simulation. Cost for it was $9.00 a person and a lot of fun. My wife and I both did the 4D simulation in Hanger One. Cost was $5.00 a person and really worth it. I have been there many times and this was the first time for my wife. She loved it too.
