We had a great round of golf at Jacaranda - food and service was great, golf course was in excellent shape.

My wife and I played four rounds while recently in Florida. I dearly wish I could take two of them back as the price/conditions/pace were bad. But the other two rounds that we liked? they had one thing in common.Public golfing options in the Ft Lauderdale region leave much to be desired. Most are muni tracks that are run down by the volume of business they get from the locals. For visitors, most private courses are off-limits, so into the meat grinder you go and you read reviews and hope for the best. Not so fast. Jacaranda Golf Club was an oasis for us. Both the East & West courses are far superior experiences to Palm Aire (Cypress) and Heron Bay that we regrettably played. I'll compare Jacaranda with both the subpar facilities during this review in the hope others will not waste their time and money. The bag drop was very convenient. Jacaranda had it staffed with three guys. At Palm Aire, we carried our bags and had to stop a maintenance guy to ask where we should check in. Heron Bay had one old guy out front who directed us (large advantage Jacaranda). We used Golfnow for all four the rounds, so each was prepaid. All of them had efficient check in but only Jacaranda asked if we had any questions about the course. Only Jacaranda had a starter who also inquired about any previous visits and our golfing ability (Heron Bay was very confusing). Course Conditioning. Jacaranda East & West. Closely mown fairways that are wide before getting to Bermuda rough. Tee boxes in average shape. Greens in very good shape and running about 10. Bunkers well attended and the sand is consistent. Palm Aire (Cypress) and Heron Bay? Very much below average conditioning and if I hadn't prepaid for golf at a huge discount, I would feel I got ripped off. Those types of conditions would be totally unacceptable up north and even the shaggiest muni in your hometown is better presented. Can I be more clear here?Course layout. Jac West is shorter that East. West has many more raised greens (ala Donald Ross) with deep-faced bunkers abutting the greens. The East course has more openings in front and less bunkers because they have some closely shaved areas around the greens as runouts. West more doglegs and more water in play. Architechturally, the West is a better design, but can only be played 6800 from the tips vs 7200 for the East, so I imagine the best players have to play East more. Yet, for the vast majority of golfers who do not play the tips, both courses work well. There are five sets of tees on each course. I played #2 on the West (6500 yds) and #3 on East (6396 yds). I would have liked to move back one set on the East, but it would have played 6900 and I thought that may be too far (I shot 82 on West and 75 on East and am a 8 handicap). Both course have an out-and-back routing so you return after nine holes.Pace of Play. West course in 3.5 hours as a foursome! Teed off at 1:23pm and was paired with two local members. A great pace and much fun. East course exactly 4 hours as a twosome. We were chasing a foursome all day and I knew we would have to wait. Heron Bay was 5 hours and a death march (10am tee time). Palm Aire (Cypress) was an afternoon tee time and we played in slightly under 4 hours.Other Tips. If you flight your ball lower you will get plenty of roll on the fairways.........plus it helps on windy days (we had a 20mph wind on Sat). Remember to bring your cart rake to the bunkers as they do not provide bunker rakes at any of the four Florida courses we played. The 19th hole is the grill and bar very conveniently located between the nines. Close to where they store carts is a free water station (and ice).Jacaranda had it all as far as we were concerned. We stayed for lunch and drinks after our 7:51am round. The following day we booked again and stayed for drinks in the grill. I'm sure Plantation Preserve down the street would also be a wise golfing choice, but for the price we paid, Jacaranda far outkicked their coverage and blew the competition away.Pricing. Golf Now for all rounds. Palm Aire $39.99 (afternoon special). $20 would be too much for this pasture. Stay away. Heron Bay $42.00 (mid-morning). This was once where they played the Honda Classic? Honestly? Well, the bones are there, but the body has gone all to hell. $30-40 is about right if you can play in 4 hours. Jacaranda West $62.50 (1:23pm) and Jacaranda East $56 (7:51am). Both outstanding rates given the course layout, conditioning, and the stated green fee of $99.99 each. Finally, I prefer the West course by a slight margin, perhaps 60/40 out of 100 plays. I liked the challenge presented at the elevated greens and green complexes. The East was wonderful but unless you need the 7200 yds, all other options could be acccomplished on the West. Interestingly, my wife went the opposite, with a70/30 favorable rating for the East. The flatter greens allowed her to run her ball up more and avoid more bunkers. I think what this says is both courses will meet with your expectations.

We had two foursomes and some free time. The experience was very good. Three of us had our clubs with us, five needed to rent including a junior. Nice rental clubs and they handled everything quickly. The carts were nice including GPS and the course (West) was in very good shape. Wide variety of tees, traps, water, doglegs, quick greens and challenge for anyone. Very good course and a lot of fun.

Whatever you want in South Florida golf, try Jacaranda. Top tee boxes all the way to the greens, you cannot do better in the Ft. Lauderdale area than here. Congrats, Jacaranda.

Tee times can be made one week in advance. Golf carts in good condition with GPS measurements, electronic scoring, etc. A mature course, flat as is customary in Florida, with plenty of water hazards and sand traps and tees in good condition. We happened to play at 1 PM on a Thursday, and were presently surprised to a find a very nice buffet at the restaurant for only $10.95. Reservations advised for the Thursday noon buffet lunch. Cart paths are well marked and it is easy to find your way around. The course is located in a pleasant community of fairway homes. This is a great place to play your first game on a golf vacation if you are flying into Ft. Lauderdale airport. We allowed about 2 hours from airplane touchdown to tee off and had time for a relaxed lunch and to hit a few balls. The course is moderate in difficulty, and should be enjoyable for multiple player levels as there are multiple tees

Played the East course with a foursome during the week. The course was somewhat busy but we played at a faster pace (which worked for us) and never had an issue with catching other groups. Afternoon rate was a bit steep ($85) but not too out of line compared to other courses in the area with similar conditions. Greens rolled true, were in good shape, and were decently fast. Overall conditions were good and with several different tee box options, there was a tee box for the low to high handicappers. Service was excellent and the burger at the turn was huge (and tasted good). Overall would definitely play the East course again, if we could find a little better rate.

Price was low. Corn beef sandwich better than toojays. It came with ff and fruit dish. They also have a table with soup and 2 bread types to help urself and it was super good. Service excellent. I rarely eat lunch out except when out of town relatives come and this is where I take them.

i was in south Florida for a day and decided to get in 18 holes. I had a few choices of top end courses and settled on jacaranda.Loved it. Played west course. Nice layout and long enough from the tips. Excellent condition. Everyone very nice, pleasant and helpful. Best part was the cost. I briefly considered doral at $370 or $180 depending on the course. Jac was $70. I played in 3 hours, with cart and very high quality gps. You really can't beat it and I wouldn't hesitate recommending to any level of golfer.

Jacaranda has an East Course and a West Course. I've played both. Carts have GPS and the driving range is located just opposite the starter. Good driving range. A restaurant is just opposite the starter. Interestingly, water and ice are tucked under the clubhouse. The course is well maintained, drains fairly well. Greens are quick but not as fast as Miami Beach. The greens do have some subtle undulation. Over 4 sets of tee boxes. Cart girl on site.

100 plus guests...wonderful cocktail hour and extensive buffet sit down dinner with good service. Spectacular views of a beautiful golf course.

It's now the off season in So. FL and we paid $80 today to play the West Course of Jacaranda. The layout was terrific, as was the condition of each fairway...but there wasn't even one well-conditioned green on any of the 18 holes. Every green had white sand and numerous burned out spots. So, I consider this a huge rip-off for the money. They should have reduced the price by 50% for the condition of these greens. There were so many other places to play of better caliber....we were greatly disappointed.

This is the best conditioned course in Broward County Florida. Love playing here, but only when I get some type of discounted price. The fairways are perfect, the greens roll wonderfully, and the sand is in good condition. East is more challenging than the West course. The fifth star is only omitted from my review due to the higher cost than most other courses.

Both courses are beautifully maintained, I prefer the East course which is a better test of golf for the lower handicapper. This is one of the best maintained and professionally run venues in the Fort Lauderdale area.

Note: this review is for GOLF ONLY on the West course. I have played many of the best private and public courses in the US. This is a public course that rivals nearly any private or premier public course in terms of course maintenance, pace of play, and professional service. The course may not have a famous architect to its credit (Weed Design updated the original Mark Mahannah design) or superior facilities but it does offer an accessible course that is thoughtfully laid out, decently challenging, and reliably makes for a great day of playing golf. This is a standout among public courses in the area.
