Mainly ran by untrained volunteers. customer service that show little excitment for eventsthis place is lavished with donations. Stale popcorn. but does little to help its selfThe pretty reckless cincert was 1 hour late to start & the staff did not come out to tell the long line of hot sweating concert goers when it would startno one came out to SELL them bottled water either.Time it was shutt down..
I always enjoy attending events in this theater. So glad it was saved and not torn down like many theaters of this age. Saw a Jim Brinkman concert here on New Year's Eve.
From the marquee to the original 1926 Kilgen pipe organ, it's a wonderful restored theatre in downtown Canton. Whether you're seeing a movie, concert or play, there isn't a bad seat in the house. The clouds and stars which grace the ceiling are a must see. So comfortable, yet there is so much character in the antique fixtures and grand staircases. When visiting Canton, don't miss this gem.
This is my most favorite place in Canton. I love it. It's a beautiful old theatre with a lot of history. The organ is original and fantastic. There are stars on the ceiling.A must see.
Having never visited Canton before, everything was a new experience. The theatre was great! I loved the old charm and original fixtures. We came in late at a break between artists, the only downside was that the bar was right where you enter and made it a little hard to get through. Other than that, all the associates I ran into were really nice, acoustics where I was sitting were great. Also... a shout out to the venue... I lost an earring at some point during the show. I contacted them the next day (thinking it would be a long shot). They hadn't found anything yet but I gave them my seat location & my cell #. They actually found it later and mailed it to me. Most places would just set that aside and never have contact me, so I was even more impressed.
The Canton Palace Theatre is a beautifully renovated theatre in downtown Canton located on Market Ave. N., in Canton, Ohio. A little bit of nostalgia for those of us who have lived here for over a half a century! Movies, special attractions and concerts have been held at this venue. If you are visiting Canton anytime in the future, take a trip down memory lane and stop in!
Have been going to this theater for the last 25 years. Nothing else like it in the area. Gorgeous architecture and comfortable seats.
This late 1920's movie "Palace" was built by a successful local businessman as a gift to the locals and like many such vintage facilities was more or less run into the ground after 50+ years.Thankfully local visionaries beginning in the 1980's preserved what remained (much) and revamped what was lacking. The sky ceiling and other period features provide a generous sample of the time when, for a nickel, you too could live in luxury. Not an enormous or overly garish place, it is nonetheless the best example in town. I wish it were utilized more frequently as it can support live acts as well as films and sells out completely when sufficiently popular talent performs. Were I young or wealthy I'd buy it, use it, and take care of it like a favorite pet. Parking not really an issue and there's lots of places nearby to eat or drink if that's part of your plan.
We are sorry to hear that you had a less than stellar experience, but the good news is that our sound system has been upgraded to an HD system, and more speakers have been added throughout the theatre. We hope to see you back in the theatre soon for a better experience!
I've been here for several fun events, including Stooge Fest, Ingrid Michaelson, and last year's fantastic silent movie, Phantom of the Opera, with organ accompaniment. I will continue to support this place whenever I can because it is a piece of history that I want my kids to enjoy as they get older. A classic movie experience.
This theatre is so amazing. Movies, live events and all in one of the most historic, beautiful theatres in the country.
Sound was excellent and seating very comfortable. Have attended many movies and entertainment shows there and have enjoyed every one.So come , sit back and reminisce of the old time atmosphere with the new time sounds.
It's one thing to attend a concert or variety show in a fully restored theatre with as much history as this venue, but it's an amazing feeling to actually perform on the stage. I had that opportunity this past weekend, and wish to thank the great staff and technical crew of the Canton Palace for making this year's "Battle of the Magicians" a most memorable experience!
This theatre takes you back to a time when going to the movies was a special treat. Many memories of the past. And its a great place for a good show.
We were in the area on business and decided to go to this movie theater to see a family fun night showing of the movie Clue. This theater is absolutely grand and fabulous. What a gem it is and how lucky the people of Canton are to have it! I hope they realize how lucky they are and support the continuing renovation of this theater. The theater is unbelievably gorgeous inside. There are plaster busts on the side and the woodwork all over the theater is intricate and has to be seen to be believed. And the movie was free!!! When we asked where we needed to go to buy a ticket the staff looked at us blankly and told us we didn't have to pay. How fantastic is that? But the best thing of all is they have the original organ for the theater and an organist played it for 30 minutes before the show. It looked like a real bear to play, so my hat is off to the guy who was playing it because he was fantastic. The organ raised out of the pit so you could watch him playing it which was unbelievably awesome. We were not allowed to sit in the balcony because that is for theater members, but we were allowed to go up afterwards to look at the balcony which was good enough for me. The membership price was so reasonable we debated paying it just to sit up there that one night. I was disappointed that there were no clouds or anything going across the sky, just some pinpoint lights up above, but that is a minor complaint out of a majorly fantastic experience.Oh, and theater volunteers--if you're going to play the movie Clue, PLEASE play all of the alternate endings! Now I have to watch it again so I can see the rest of them :). Thanks for an unforgettable experience!Pros:--Free movies for family fun night on First Fridays--The theater apparently serves alcohol which is nice for adults--Unbelievable original woodwork and furnishings--Theater is in excellent condition for its age--Live organist on original organ playing for 30 minutes before the show--All on one floor so it's wheelchair accessible, there's even a bathroom on the ground levelCons:I don't have any, yay!!!
