I was amazed to learn about the role of John Parker in the Underground Railroad. I was especially impressed with his having bought himself freedom from slavery in Mississippi/Louisiana and coming North. He was a smart black man and quite an entrepreneur. A must see for those interested in the Underground Railroad and the important role that Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati played.

The Parker House is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May to October. This is a national landmark and there is an interesting plaque in the front of the house to read before entering. The home overlooks the Ohio River and the street in front of the house had plenty of free parking spots available. Dewey, the docent, gave a very informative and interesting talk about John Parker and the house. After the talk we were free to walk around the house on our own and view the exhibits. Price for the tour was $4 for adults. Next to the house is a rather new looking memorial park and along the river front there are benches to sit and view the scenery. I definitely enjoyed visiting the Parker House. Afterwards, head up the hill for a short drive to the Rankin House.

A very interesting and informative hour well spent learning about the life of John Parker, one of America's heroes as a conductor on the Underground Railroad.

Stopped in town during the Ohio Hog Rally. The scenic ride was great. We stopped by here I read most historical markers and this was a pleasant surprise. We did the entire tour which is rather long. Bought Parkers book and made a donation to help with important piece of history.

Ripley is amazing me and the history of the Underground Railroad there is show stopping. After a visit to the Rankin House my wife and I made it point to visit the John Parker House as well. Even though the talk that the man gives was quite long, you could see the passion he had for the story he was sharing. It's a must when visiting the Ripley Riverfront and the wonderful history in Southern Ohio.

Our family went to Cincinnati and to Ripley, Ohio, to research the Underground Railroad. Visiting the John Parker House in Ripley was a highlight of the trip. A docent at this house gave a 40-minute extemporaneous talk about the man that was absolutely fascinating. The displays in the home were very informative, and it's a tremendous thing that people in Ripley and elsewhere managed to preserve the home of John Parker, a truly remarkable man.
