Oklahoma is a unique sort of place, in that it was founded by a "wedding" of sorts between the white predominant society and the fading society of the red people of native heritage, who had been moved to Oklahoma/Indian Territory, during their expulsion from the rest of the country during the 19th Century. Failing to gain statehood, as an "Indian" State, a coalition of whites and reds made another bid and statehood was approved by Congress in 1907. The Territorial Museum is a show place of that "wedding" and the beginning of the effort to bring back the red people from the brink of extinction.

I took my youngest daughter with me on a recent outing to Guthrie. Although we enjoyed our stop, there really wasn't much for young children. There were some interesting exhibits and artifacts, but better suited for older children and families.

Stopped and visited. Two floors of exhibits about Oklahoma History. It's has a great exhibit about Statehood with good artifacts. The Library is interesting as well. It was worth the $3 admission.

History buffs interested in details of the Oklahoma land rush era must visit this collection. The staff is professional and helpful. Very well presented exhibits of U.S. Marshalls of the Territory, pioneer families, outlaws, Carrie Nation, and Sooners bring the colorful, unique time in Oklahoma history to life.

We always enjoy this collection when we visit. Very interesting. Wish they would up the funding for it.

I have walked through this little museum in the historic town of Guthrie at least once a year since I was a small child. Possessed of less than a dozen exhibition galleries plus a permanent exhibit of the original Carnegie Library, on whose grounds the building stands. It has never failed to have a new tidbit of history from the early days of territorial Oklahoma. If one is looking for a nice day trip with an educational motif, I highly recommend the Territorial.

We visited a LOT of museums on our 12 day road trip. This one was pretty small, but very nicely done. I'm glad we didn't go out of our way to visit it, but it was well worth a short drive.

For a $2 per person donation our family spent hours going through this museum of pioneers, American Indians, outlaws, politicians, etc. It is awesome! Don't miss it!
