I took our party of women, my sisters and mom, here as the beginning of our exploration of the Gorge. I knew we could do tons of outside things, but wanted to mix it up a little, so we stopped here, even though one of my sisters is not a shopper, at all. But this place is special, and one of my other sisters LOVES Halloween, so we stopped. First of all, Troutdale is darn cute, and you can't help but be charmed by the little street of shops. And the General Store is the best store of all to keep people amused for a while. Halloween and Christmas stuff galore fill the basement all year around, and not run-of-the-mill stuff, but cool, unique décor items. There's other décor, too, ranging from elegant country style to one-off whimsical touches to really make a statement in a room where you want something special. They have an excellent assortment of humorous greeting cards that are truly witty. And they have a great retro toy and candy section that will make you remember your childhood. Flicks, anyone? Add to all this, yummy ice cream cones, espresso, and even lunch if you're in the mood. A great stop for anyone!!!

This is such a cute little store and had a whole bunch of assortment of things from household items, souvenirs to fresh coffee and then ice cream. The people are sweet, and it delivers that good small town charm. Try the coconut latte, it's super delicious!

This has been Troutdale's General store existed as THE TROUTDALE GENERAL STORE since the late 1800s. It was the first general store east of Portland. Now owned, by Terry Jodi and daughter Casey Smoke since 2001, this place is loaded with memorabilia including all holidays all year round. Check out the basement to check out great Christmas and Halloween stuff while your sandwich is made or before that delicious Café Latte and desert. Have an ice-cream with it.. Do you like licorice ice cream? They have special flavors.Named in many contests among retailers they have won awards (well deserved) for best gift shop in East County and for 4 running they were one of the ***top retailers in the nation.." Among others winning this award in Florida were Disney Gift Shop and Universal Studios Gift Shop and The White House Gift Shop as well. This is a very prestigious award for the very few who are the best in the Nation. Located at 289 east Historic Columbia River Highway, in the charming town of Troutdale, the gate to the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area..They have tables out front if you are a people watcher.
