We came with two children who had never skied before, so we signed them up for lessons and rented their gear. Rental was quick and easy; they were fitted for skis, poles, and boots. The instructor was very helpful, he taught them a lot and they seemed to like him. All of the staff there is very friendly and attentive. When they were finished with their morning lesson, we had lunch in the ski lodge. After that, we went on to ride some green slopes. Diamond peak only has two green slopes. One is the schoolyard where lessons are taught, and there is one other one. We wished they had more slopes, but the greens they did have were groomed and had a lake view. We finished the day satisfied - Diamond Peak is a great place to go for lessons and a fun ski trip.
Yes, it's small by other Tahoe resort standards, but it's a great place for a "warm-up" day. The views are killer! At the top of the Lakeview Chairlift is the Snowflake Lodge. Quick eats and drinks, but go out on the deck! The view of the lake is unsurpassed. There are a few great blue runs and the grooming is perfect. Crystal Ridge run at the top of the Crystal Express is a long run with PLENTY of peel-off black and blue runs to vary the day. On a down note, Most of Diamond Peak faces southeast, so it's usually one of the last ski resorts to open and first to close. This year (2015) all of Tahoe is in DESPERATE need of snow and hardly anyone has all runs open. For locals, the ticket prices are unbeatable--$25 per day non-holiday. There's lots of varying terrain so there's something for everyone.
saw an add in a local "what to do in Tahoe" flyer for a locals lunch, m-f from 11:00 to 1:00 for $25, including a $10 food voucher.checked on their web-site & did not see it there.was staying in Incline Village for my time-share week, so nice & close, decided to check it out, sure enough the ticket booth sold me a limited time 2 hour ski pass for $25.pretty bleak snow cover, they only had 3 or 4 runs open, but coverage was good, did not tear up my boards.I got about 15 runs in during the 2 hours.great deal if you only want a few hours of skiing.NOTE: you don't have to be a local to get this deal.
Go to the top, spectacular view of Lake Tahoe and it's surrounding mountains. Smaller ski area, had zero wait times at the lifts and well groomed slopes, even if the 50 degree temps made it a bit heavy going.
Diamond Peak is the best place for beginners, especially for family with kids want to learn ski, snowboard. If you are looking for some challenges, better go some other places like heveanly. One day lift ticket for beginner is $39, just one fourth of heveanly (as a beginner, you don't have much chances take those blue or black trails, so even you paid the whole price, you will most likely use lift for greens only)
We do have some fun advanced terrain and tree skiing but due to the warm temperatures we’ve had recently, most of those trails are not open. Crystal Ridge and the Great Flume are great intermediate trails that are open and perfect for cruising. -Jackie
We usually can keep all our lifts running on windy days when other resorts shut down, due to our elevation and orientation of the lifts. The base lodge can get crowded on a stormy day but if it’s sunny there’s plenty of space on the deck or the Snowflake Lodge. That storm actually brought in 2 feet of snow, so visit us again soon! - Jackie
Well said! Diamond Peak is not only affordable and friendly, but really convenient for people staying at the Hyatt. You can purchase everything at the Hyatt Sports Shop and hop on the Diamond Peak shuttle. We have great beginner areas, but also intermediate and advanced terrain. Those ski team kids you saw could be Olympians some day! We hold ski team training and races on our mountain for youth and college races. Thanks for a wonderful review, come again soon! - Jackie
Our grooming team works hard to make sure the snow is top-notch, whether it’s manmade or natural. Thanks for giving us a try and sharing your comments! See you next time. -Jackie
Thanks to our amazing snowmaking and grooming team we have some great skiing right now! Be sure to come back when those black diamonds and glades open. -Jackie
We’re known for our beginner area and lessons but we also have some great terrain for intermediate and advanced skiers including awesome tree skiing. Once we get more snow and fully open there will be plenty of terrain to keep you busy. Thanks for your service and taking the time to write in! -Jackie
We also offer a free shuttle from the Hyatt that leaves every 30 minutes making it very convenient for those staying there. Thanks for your review and hope to see you next time you’re in Tahoe! -Jackie
Diamond Peak was actually the first ski resort in Tahoe to have snowmaking in the late 60’s and we continue to improve and invest in our snowmaking and grooming equipment. Thank you for your review, we love hearing from our skiers! - Jackie
Thanks for sharing these great tips! It does sometimes get busy during the holidays so my tip would be to come on a regular weekend or weekday if you can. Once you are ready for the intermediate runs there are also less people and hardly ever a line. Hope to see you back! -Jackie
We do offer a few preferred parking spots during holiday periods but the rest of the parking is free. There is also a tram that picks you up at your car if you have to park further away. Thanks for taking the time to review and we’ll see you next time! -Jackie
