If you like architecture this is a good location to see. Across the street is the "pink lady" also a well knowN home.
During the summer the cameras are working overtime. This mansion, now a private club, is an amazing sight and should not be missed. I often think of all the cars buzzing down Highway 101 who have never gone 2 blocks out of their way to see this amazing structure. Pity!
Although this is a private club, the view from the street is worth the stop. If you know a member, the food is very good and the mansion has been historically renovated inside. Beautiful woodwork and nice wallpaper.
I am from the Seattle area and up there we have many stately Queen Ann and Victorian houses. The Carson Mansion is gorgeous, from it's elegant grounds to the top of it's cupola. I will have to contact the Ingomar Club to see if our car club could tour it. I am sure that it is as spectacular looking on the inside as it is on the outside. The other houses around it are nice to look at too. I however have to pass on the gaudy color of paint of the Pink Lady across the street however.
I visited the Carson Mansion for the first time in 1977 and have been there 100+ times through the years. Since it is a private club - also called the Ingomar Club - it is not open to the general public, but only to members and their guests. The building itself is unbelievably beautiful and well maintained. It's truly an unforgettable experience to tour the building, see the bedrooms originally used by the Carson family, and to dine in the large main dining room or one of the smaller ones.I've found the quality of the food, and the presentation, varies from time to time - I assume depending on who's in charge of the food services, as well as staff working on a particular day. I've had some truly delicious meals there, as well as some less perfect ones.Maintaining the building in its current condition is very costly, and is paid for by the dues of the current membership. Offering public tours has been considered in the past, but it was found not being cost effective, as the wear and tear on carpeting etc. would offset any income from visitors. The Carson Mansion is definitely a fantastic tourist attraction and is constantly being admired and photographed by visitors. I believe every resident of Eureka has reason to be both proud and happy having it be part of our small town!
This is one of the most elegant and beautiful Victorian mansions that I have seen. I wish it was not a private club so that it could be visited to see what must be a wonderful interior,
This is a fantastic landmark in Eureka! Like everyone who sees this building, we wish there were tours of the inside. But it is highly photogenic from the outside, and maybe the private club who owns it will see all of these reviews and decide to offer tours at some point. Drive around the old, atmospheric neighborhood that surrounds this special building -- there are many less spectacular but worthy structures to enjoy.
I was lucky to be invited to lunch by a member of the club that now occupies this lovely old home. It is just as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. The attention to detail, and oh my - all the details - are gorgeous!
The Carson Mansion is a great attraction to see in Eureka. Its absolutely beautiful! Wish you could go inside to view it but its still just as stunning from the outside! A must see when visiting Eureka.
Since we could only see it from the outside, I think you'd be better off seeing the inside and outside of the two local museums! I am sure the Carson Mansion is nice but the old Carnegie Library has been carefully restored, provides lots of local artwork, and will welcome you! The other museum is an old bank turned into a county museum that will dazzle you with local history!
The Carson Mansion is an attractive wooden Victorian Mansion that was built by a lumber baron turn of the century, after his home in San Francisco burned after the earthquake. Today the building is a private club and is only open for tours on a limited basis. The gardens are very attractive, even in the off season.
If you want to go visit a great old fashioned attraction then this place the Carson Mansion is the one for you, this is also the most photographed attraction and for a good reason The architecture is absolutely amazing and this also has some nice wide porches and the period furnishings are really neat that also fill this mansion. So while in Eureka be sure to go and visit this attraction this is a great attraction to visit while you are in Eureka this is also well maintained.
This building is the most photographed in America, and for good reason! The architecture is absolutely amazing! It is a private club(The Ingomar Club) so you can't go inside, which is a shame as the interior is also beautiful.
The Carson Mansion served as the host for my wife's Eureka High School reunion. The grounds and house are immaculately maintained. The porches are wide and comfortable. Period furnishings fill the structure. The buffet dinner was catered by the Mansion staff. Their shrimp, roast beef, anti pasta, etc. was well prepared and delicious. Being able to see the architectural detail of this Victorian home was well worth the cost of the reunion fee. Oak is widely used inside for built in benches and stair components.
This is such a beautiful historical mansion with a beautiful view of the ocean. The only thing is you can't get inside to explore it because it was a private group who own this place and won't allow anybody to see it..
