Who knew? Potter, muse, girl next door to Krishnamurti, Wood had an affair with Marcel Duchamp and his pal Roche, that served as the basis for Roche's Jules and Jim. The curator is incredibly knowledgeable and the grounds are gorgeous. Don't miss this if you come to Ojai.
The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts is an absolutely charming venue, home to Miss Woods, the Mama of Dada, until her passing at the age of 105. There you will find a museum of the fascinating personal history of Beato where you learn the secret to her longevity - chocolates and young men. There's a shop where the charming ceramic work of Miss Woods is available, as well as the work of other artists. Workshops are offered during the year. The view of the Ojai Valley from this home, shop and studio is spectacular.Treat yourself to a real get-away and visit the Center for the Arts.
Because the Beatrice Wood studio is in Upper Ojai, it is often overlooked by visitors to Ojai's main centre. We visit Ojai often, and always try to take friends there. Beatrice Wood was a fascinating personality who lived to 105 and was creatively active all her life, designing unique lustre glazes for her whimsical pottery pieces and writing a very witty autobiography, among other things. As well as showing exhibits of Beatrice Wood's own work and history, the studio hosts workshops, events, and rotating exhibits of other interesting artists. There is a selection of artworks and handicrafts for sale.
