Evoo, Evoo, Evoo...You will be yodeling as if in the Italian Tyrolian Alps...This is one of those places that makes Ojai so special. You drive through a corridor of whispering olive and orange trees to the small tasting room back past the main chateau...there you will find a friendly welcome to taste some of the best EVO & a selection of wonderful balsamic vinegars. My secret fave- The astounding Blackberry Balsamic - I could drink this as an aperitivo...It's beyond great drizzled on charred peaches or nutty, rich, aged parmigiano. But I digress...The tasting room is only open on weekends or by apt. and it feels like your very own secret spot. Evoo, Evoo, Evoooo..
From LA took a mini-trip to Ojai for some R & R. We thought we'd get off the beaten path and see what the offerings were. Olive oil tasting - perfect! We originally headed for the first option that was featured more prominently, but along the way caught sight of another. Visited the first just enough to get a feel for what was happening, then decided to head to the other - thankfully! While the first option (who shall remain nameless) was rustic and informative, Regalo was very aesthetically pleasing and on the grounds of a lovely Tuscan-style farm. The presentation of the goods was personal (we were the first ones there!) and, bonus, a family member had picked oranges that grow on the farm and they were available for purchase. The manager guided through the process of olive oil tasting, as well as balsamic vinegar varietals. Some people prefer to soak a bit of bread in the oil or vinegar, others would rather sip it straight from a small plastic cup. Whatever suits your fancy. I came away with Rosemary Lavender EVOO. Exotic and tasty. Such choices! There were too many flavors to name, but trust me, there was something for everyone. The manager was engaging, patient and full of info. Side note: there is a "weeping" tree in front of the building. Apparently there is a little critter that burrows in the tree, which then releases moisture, which gives the impression of rain coming down. It looks like a hard drizzle. Crazy. Luckily the weather was perfect. The atmosphere peaceful. The product delicious. When in Ojai, do stop in. Your taste buds will thank you for it.
Very nice staff and surroundings. They offered a large amount of tastings of not only olive oil but also a variety of vinegars. We will visit this business again.
small but adequate number of oils offered, great tasting experience. the place is right next to the orange grove, so it was very nice to walk around
