The equine facilities for the equestrian campground are very nice. We stayed here for a week primarily to do trail training with our horses. Well built pens. Very nice arena. The trails are easy and perfect for new riders. The fees are very reasonable. There is only one manure bunk and its quite a hike. Bring your own wheel barrow. The shower house is a very very long distance away and is dirty. The shower houses in the regular campgrounds were much nicer. Some of the other reviews mentioned signage problems. There are maps available at the main office or from the camp hosts. Our camp host, Charlie was very helpful.
We live less than 30 minutes away from El Dorado lake. We camp frequently and bring our boat out even when we aren't camping. The lake is a good size. Camp sites are abundant and decent. We enjoy boating and this is our favorite nearby lake. You do have to keep eyes open for trees in the water!
ElDorado State Park is work the stop, but only if you just want mellow surroundings and not a host of attractions. Signage there is poor, and the cost of a one-day permit high (get the season pass if you can). They will check you so don't chance it. The rental cabins are very cool, and well maintained. Fishing excellent in this man made impoundment. Many deer, turkey, songbirds to see. Typical reservoir. State should fund its appearance and improvements better.
The signage at the park is horrible. It was very difficult to find the campgrounds. We never did find the campground on the lake, only the one on the river. We even asked a local at the marina and they could not tell us how to get there. The campground we finally found was very nice, big lots with lots of trees. The bike trails were nice as well.
We were first welcomed into the park by nobody. Nobody at all. There was one other tent site with campers in it but that was about all we saw the whole time. The bathrooms were a bit traumatizing. Not only were there birds swooping at your head there was fish blood congealed in the sink. Speaking of fish, the previous campers left a gift of rotten fish bait in a bag(we thought the smell was just Kansas, we were mistaken. Sorry Kansas). The wind was so strong that we ended up sleeping in the car. The only other campers made something akin to a blanket fort to hide from the wind. But there are showers that they don't mention on the website (though the showers cut out periodically). The lake looks lovely though.
This park is a good place to go for a relaxing time. My friends and I have a great time every time we visit.
This is a great place (or used to be) to get married if you like the lake as backdrop and the sound of waves as background music. When my husband and I got married 10yrs ago it was perfect...there was restrooms not far away. A huge gazebo that appeared to just hang over the water. With a tree lined walkway to it and with benches at the entrance. And enough room to have a picnic or set up a dining tent. When my son wanted to get married in the same theme (Reneissance) as his dad and I did that was the perfect place. But when we went to look at it we discover there was a few changes.Due to cuts the care takers no longer stay in trailer near by to care for the area. Without them there, vandals destroyed the bathrooms so they had to be shut up. The gazebo is still as great as ever and there is still a walkway to it but the trees that line the walkway have been cut down, the benches & stone posts at the entrance of it are no more or missing pieces. But the beauty of the gazebo, the view and the sound of the lake was still to beautiful to let go so we brought a trailer as a place to change and for bathroom. And we put up tables for a reception under a fabulous full moon.It is sad really that it was allowed to fall into this condition because the sound was great in that place and the beauty wnd
