shake rag alley school of arts & crafts

My sister-in-law and I just attended the stacking shaker box and basket class offered in October. It was a wonderful experience and we were so proud of our baskets and boxes. The instructor, Bob, was quite informative and helpful. The gal who worked in the office was very helpful when we arrived as well. It was a great experience and we are definitely planning a trip there in 2015 to try another craft. We plan to spend a little more time our next trip as the town and surrounding area are so beautiful, we need to explore more! We stayed at Walker House and that was also a delightful experience.

A wide array of hands-on classes are available in a charming (although the grounds needed some cleanup) village-type setup inside the town of Mineral Point. Also, there was a strong musty smell in some of the buildings. But overall, it was well worth the money spent for the excellent instruction.

My husband and I took this class, offered twice a year, in early June and in Sept, and had an absolute great time! We stayed in the coach house so were close by. The flowers in Shake Rag Alley were lovely. We made quite a few very usefull things, I was impressed with our instructor, he really broke the tasks down into easy to follow steps. I was worried i wouldn't last three days of blacksmithing but I did! He talked about safety and what stance to use and how to hammer metal efficiently. The class size of 6 enables him to give each student personal attention. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to learn a new craft. It was a lot of fun!

We love the rustic stone trails and historic buildings. The place has a feel of being set apart in time with a spring fed stream dancing through and bits of artistic whimsy poking their heads out of flower beds, on fence posts and around corners. The classes are diverse and taught by many local and regional artisans. Tuition is fair and class sizes are small enough to get some one-on-one with the instructors. Events throughout the year are all worth checking out, as is the landscape that changes beautifully throughout the year.

Love to learn new artistic expressions. Wonderful set up and great teachers. they even have accommodations for students

If its what you like then this school of arts is a great place to add to the list of things to see and do while in the area.

You can have some great experiences here and even make some things that you didn't think you could do. They offer some great classes but you have to sign up early because they fill up fast. Go to the Mineral Point website for information about what is being offered.

Very beautiful place to spend a weekend afternoon. The classes are very fun and informative! Instructors knowledgeable and friendly.

I went to a canning and preserving class and absolutely loved it. Before the class I didn't know anything about canning and preserving, but the instructors were very friendly and knowledgeable. The class was relaxed but informative. We each left with jars of tomatoes and jam we had made, and everyone had a wonderful time. It was a really fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
