What a magical setting for a little theatre! We have had the pleasure of being in the audience, on stage and behind the scenes and are absolutely in love. The outdoor stage is set into the bluffs and new seating has been added. Sound is good and you get a real sense of being part of the shows there just because of the layout. The shows are carefully chosen popular and new, original works that typically have a small cast, thus adding to the atmosphere and feeling of closeness. Occasionally shows are held off-campus or in the rustic Cabinet Shop just across the stone bridge that leads across a clear running stream. If we had to add any negatives it would be that at times the outdoor theatre is at the mercy of the weather and that we can't be there more often. We love you, Alley Stage. Keep up the great work!
My wife and I enjoyed a gorgeous evening at Alley Stage with friends recently, listening to Harmonious Wail, an incredibly talented gypsy swing group based out of Madison, WI. We were so entertained by their great musicianship, combining an ethereal, bouncy, folk-jazz feel one minute followed by the delicate, refined feel of a mesmerizing ballad the next. Maggie's sensuous vocals carry each seamlessly, as she draws you into her world. Combine this with a super cool venue, as the stage and seating is surrounded by natural beauty, and you've got a winner. Highly recommend!!
We've seen three productions at Alley Stage this summer. All included great performances in a beautiful setting with the sounds of nature and small town happenings enhancing the experience.
BEAUTIFUL outdoor theater nestled into a natural stone wall in Southwestern Wisconsin. The plays are charming, hilarious, moving, nostalgic, and exceedingly eclectic. In addition, it's part of the Shake Rag Alley complex that is home to an array of restored buildings, beautiful gardens, and exciting art classes. I've been going to plays there since they opened (6 years ago) and an evening there has never failed to astonish me. Grab a snack and a Spotted Cow at the concession stand and ease into one of the cozy seats because there's no place on earth quite like it.
On a recent balmy evening in Mineral Point our family thoroughly enjoyed the actors, the costumes, and the pit orchestra sounds that the carried us magically "Into the Woods". The natural setting and welcoming hosts at Shake Ray Alley Under the Hill in Mineral Point made this an evening and a play to remember. Prepare to be entertained. Visit Shake Rag!
