My first train ride at Strasburg Railroad was way back in the 90's with my husband and our three young daughters. I was just reviewing those photos and there are smiles on all faces. The conductor posed with us back then, and shared his hat. Recently my husband and I returned on his birthday, with our now grown "baby" of the family, (27) and her fiance'. We had another great experience, this time, as adults, with a different perspective. The conductor (a different one, of course) posed with me this time, and shared his hat! The train is well maintained, a nice slice of history you can touch and feel and experience. We saw or noticed no negatives. Recommend this for tourists as well as locals. It's a fun and easy way to spend a few hours.

My wife and I took our daughters to Lancaster, PA in November 2014 and we bought tickets to ride the Strasburg Railroad where Santa would visit with the children in each car and pose for pictures. Each of the train cars is beautiful and is from the early 1900's. The ride is about 45 minutes to an hour. The cars have a coal fired heater to stay warm. The cost for 2 adults and 2 children was a little over $ 50 which was reasonable. At Christmas time, there are also carolers that sing holiday songs. The Strasburg Railroad is across the street from the railroad museum. I would recommend going on the Strasburg Railroad and you will enjoy going back in time on one of these old classic trains.

THE TRAIN WAS OK, it COULD BE BETTER, it is a well maintained and preserved with inside shape, colors , furniture are the original, at least look as the one were used in the past, Dark side is the length of the ride, it was so short that we couldn’t believe it was already over when we started to enjoying it . We bought for the first class area,it was a little more of price but it has included the visit to the train the entrance to the Train Museum ; which was without a doubt the best of the trip . The first class cabin chairs were much better than the rest of the train; because turned around 360 degrees which made easier to look all over / both sides of the road . The train food menu was very poor, is was not full menu but better call a finger food menu but still it was less than average on quality and the presentation pretty poor The attendants of the train were in such rush serving the people; due the short frame time of the train ride . The voice of the guide should use a new or a better microphone to improve the audio, most of the time we didn’t hear what he said of the story or places we passed by during the ride All the people working on the stores, coffee shops and tickets sales of the Strasburg train are very agreeable with eextended cordiality when we asked or requested information. Certainly that the people over there made the visit a very special one… BUT what made it EXTRAORDINARY was the visit to the Strasburg Train Museum. It is not just another train museum , it is a JEWERLY for a learning and entertainment experience to all ages, but for someone who loves trains, it is a must to plan a visit . Furthermore , for kids and teens the museum also offers enjoyable time when interact in special and modern replicas of old train stations, also they can learn when having fun .All design and exhibits of the Museum were built with complete care of all details. There are an enormous variety of trains, from old one to the newest models . Well done recorded stories, plus the unique experience to enter inside real trains ,where we could realize the way the passengers traveled in those same trains but on the late 1800 and early 1900 . The completely Museum’ display deserve A++; because every area of the enormous display has everything you wanted to encounter and enjoy in a train museum ( interactive salons, replicas of little towns where the train station was the main part of it , looking as real - so well done- the mannequins of train drivers, passengers and workers of the trains) .. BIG CONCLUSION when are around , Lancaster, PA a great plan will be to separate a minimum of two hours to visit the most complete Train Museum . For all of us it was the highlight of the weekend ..

We had an enjoyable outing on the train. Sat in the first class parlor car and loved the decor. Nice 45 minute narrated ride. We will be returning with our 3 year old great-nephew to ride the train and get off at the picnic grounds for an outing in the spring.

Nice little 45-minute steam train ride but once you've ridden it little ever changes. Same old spiel on the intercom every year.

It has been 41 years since I have been here. We ordered our Parlor tickets online before we left NY. The rail car was beautiful and very comfortable. This 45 minute trip brought back fond memories of 41 years ago with my grandparents. I thought the price was well worth it as my children loved the ride.

This was a great thrill for my grandson, we went on the steam engine train for several miles up the track and back to the depot, lots of fun, they also have model trains to buy as well, very interesting place. we were there several years ago possibly five years.

We came to the area shopping for the weekend and noticed the train was running especially for the weekend. The trains are absolutely beautiful and restored to amazing detail. We took advantage of the special ride coupled w the railroad museum. Any rail fan or people just looking for something nostalgic should come for the ride. The oldest operating railroad in the US is worth the investment price in the ticket to preserve these workhorses for future generations! Plenty of parking. Friendly professional staff and great views of the Lancaster County and Amish countryside.

We went across the street to the Railroad Museum and bought combination tickets for the museum tour and a train ride. It was a beautiful time for a train ride. We normally come to the Thomas events but it wasn't that crowded. What a great activity to do with any train enthusiast. We can't wait to come back to see Thomas and Percy.

We really enjoyed a quick stop here on our way through the area. We got some great photos and my son, who really likes trains, had a grand time. The sounds of the train were tough on the baby though.

My overall experience on this venue: amazing. We went during winter time with friends of ours and the children on a Santa Claus ride and it was very nice.Reservation process:It was very easy. We ordered our tickets in advance online from the Strasburg Rail Road website and redeemed them at the box office. Beware that their confirmation receipt and tickets may be delivered to your spam folder [they responsibly let you know on the instructions too]. They gave us a free whoopie-pie with our purchase which was very niceThe crew was very friendly and nice to the kids and provided them with souvenirs / presents at the end of the trip. Will definitely do it again on a different season where I've seen they have other programs and amenities on the trains. For the adults:They have the Rumspringer Brewery about five minutes away. Their selection is really nice and so is the food. The waitress was very knowledgeable on their product and very friendly recommending good beer. Downstairs [first area you'll see before getting to the brewery on the second floor] there's also a winery where they allow you to taste any kind of wine you're interested to try. Very friendly people overall in the two different business areas. Will totally come back and definitely recommend it.

We've been taking advantage of what the Strasburg Railroad has to offer for YEARS, and we usually come, at least yearly. This trip, we came for Thomas and Percy. Thomas is a longer ride than the ride on Percy, but is a shorter ride than riding on the regular trains. We learned, this time, that while, as of now, Percy is a regular steam engine wearing a costume, Thomas is an actual steam engine. Whether you come for a special event, like Thomas, or come to ride the regular train, be sure to ride on all the other trains and trolleys that run on the grounds! They're all fun, and the historical trains are interesting, as well as beautiful! On Thomas days, there are lots of Thomas-related activities for children. If you go in November, the fresh hot Amish pretzels are worth the wait!We haven't yet taken the tour of the repair shop, but it looks interesting. One of these years...

By Kristen MayI took my daughter and one of her friends to the Strasburg Rail Road for Santa’s Paradise Express. The kiddos, both 4-years old, were very excited about riding the train, but even more excited about seeing Santa himself. We boarded the train and waited about 5 minutes before the train whistle blew and we slowly took off. It wasn’t long before Santa and two of his helpers came aboard our car. It was a joy to see all the children’s eye light up. Santa greeted each child, posted for a seasonal iconic photo, and gave each an old-fashioned train which doubled as a pencil sharpener. After Santa, two tuba players made their way through our car playing happy holiday tunes, then a couple of carolers who insisted that we sing along with them in merriment. While we had the opportunity to climb aboard the Tinsel Trolley, a self-propelled motor car, my kiddos wanted to warm up in the heated stationary Caboose while listing to a costumed character read Christmas classics. Afterward, the children made their way to Mrs. Claus who was at the station helping children finalize their letters to Santa. This experience was wonderfully magical and fun. There’s no way that one can leave this place without a fond memory.Don’t miss out on this fun every December!
