The tour guides and staff were very informed and welcoming. Great addition to a weekend in Lancaster. I would recommend this to friends.

Reading in Tripadvisor about places to visit in Lancaster, PA, we decided to visit this place. The tour was about to begin and in the meantime looked at some pictures and antique furniture on display. The tour consisted of a visit through the house of President James Buchanan. The guide was very knowledgeable and made the time go by fast.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided many unknown facts about this president that preceded Lincoln

I took my grandson to Wheatland to see a historical site. When we arrived, we were happy to learn that they had a play, their version of A Christmas Carol, for us. We walked through the mansion while being part of the Tiny Tim story. The show was flawless. We will visit the famous house another time, but the play may be an annual visit with new youngsters to entertain.Try it.

The home of our 15th President, James Buchanan, is a wonderful place to visit. The guided tour is roughly an hour long, and my guide Bob did a fantastic job explaining each room and the life of President Buchanan. The last time I was in this home was as a child maybe 8 or 9 yrs of age. I noted that to Bob and he said some things have changed since then. Surprisingly I recognized many features since my last visit, down to a marble topped table on the 2nd floor which I noted was missing the rather large basin. That artifact has been moved to the Lancaster Historical Organization museum. The site is not handicapped accessible so keep this in mind if you plan on visitng.

I took my elderly mother (a history buff recently moved to the area) to see Wheatland. I understand that they need to maintain the authenticity of the mansion by not adding elevators, etc. but I think we should have been that prior to paying to go in!! That would have been a deal-breaker because so much of the tour is on the upper levels. We left feeling "had" and disappointed.

I have just returned from a marvelous production at historic Wheatland. This year's special program is entitled "Tiny Tim's Christmas Present ". The play uses the Victorian mansion to its fullest. You journey back in time to visit Tiny Tim all grown up. Travel through the house and meet relatives and spirits from his past. The show is appropriate for all ages. Performances run through December 30. You should call for reservations. 717 392-4633

This review is strictly for the Yuletide tour. The tour consisted entirely of an emersion into a local version of Charles Dickins' "A Christmas Carol". As such it was entirely unconnected to the mansion, the grounds or any people who lived in the house. The cast was cheerful and enthusiastic, but did not impart any historical content. If you are interested in this as such, fine, but it should be advertised as such. The title is misleading and was disappointing for us who visited expecting to learn about James Buchanan and the celebration of Christmas at Wheatland. We also visited the Lancaster Historical Society which was very interesting.

James Buchanan was the President that held office at the beginning of the Civil War, just before Abraham Lincoln. He suffers from the comparison. He served our country in a number of offices including the Presidency. The house is very nice and the tour is great. You will better understand James Buchanan when you are done.

This is a wonderful and under visited historic home. The grounds and home are such a delightful area to see. The guide was so helpful in giving the history of the sitte. We will visit again in the future.

As this was right down the street from where I was working (business trip), I decided to drive over to at least see the exterior of the building and the property. Autumn color on the very mature trees was striking in the early evening fading light, displayed the fall colors in vivid color. Perfect for a quiet stroll to unwind from the busy work world. The surrounding community has an array of beautiful homes with nicely landscaped yards. A must for US Presidential history buffs. Articles indicate that James Buchanan may have been the worst US President but I can think of others, no longer in office that could equate that distinction. Regardless the facade of older buildings have much more character, eye appeal and interest than modern day cookie cutter homes hold for me.

One doesn't hear too much about our 15th president, James Buchanan. Our visit to Wheatland was interesting - time well spent.

Almost all of the furnishings were Mr Buchanans, which is unique in period houses. He didn't do much as president, so not much to tell

The tour of Wheatland was very interesting and our guide was excellent. The home is located in a very pretty area of Lancaster with beautiful homes surrounding it. Lancaster History Center was right at Wheatland. Worth a stop.

Our docent was Doug. Our one hour guided tour of James Buchanan 's home was terrific. Doug knew all! The furnishings were mostly those when Mr. Buchanan lived there. The wallpapers were amazing. One got a true feeling of how people lived in the late 1800's. There are also exhibits and a film at the historical center where you buy you tickets.
