Peter Wentz Farmstead is so close to my home that I've never bothered to go there before yesterday. What a mistake!! I decided to take my camera for a walk but I didn't want to go too far and thought about a friend mentioning that the Farmstead was just a short ride and worth the time. He was right. There are some interesting restored buildings - one of which contained a bird's nest in the rafters of a breezeway. The parent birds were not happy when I went to take a picture and eventually drove me out with their "dive bombing"! There are animals (sheep, goats, horses, pig, cows, etc.) and a trail that runs the perimeter of the property, including an area along a rather shallow, narrow creek. I don't know if it's like this all the time, but there were some children there that appeared to be part of a camp that had people in colonial dress supervising them. I only saw a couple of other adults walking the property. So, if you want a nice leisurely walk in a place with some interesting attractions, Peter Wentz Farmstead in Worcester, Pa. is a place to think about doing that! Oh - one other thing - the price is exactly right - it's FREE!!

This is it folks! Truly the way our forefathers lived and worked and you can't find it portrayed more authentically than this. This is just the most authentic portrayal of how early Americans lived and worked especially locally. History at it's best and authentic. No "Disney" stuff here. This is the real thing!

Stopped by with my spouse on a late winter weekday, so it was pretty empty (just the way we like it!). A docent gave us a tour, which was very interesting and informative. Learned a lot and enjoyed it thoroughly. Would like to go back when it is warmer and/or during the holidays.

Peter Wentz was a German farmer and his home was used by Gen. George Washington in 1877. The home has been beautifully restored to reflect the German heritage of the family and they have many tours through out the year. Especially nice is the Christmas candlelight tour. You will see how Christmas was celebrated then and there is often violin and harp music provided as you walk through the house.

This old farmstead gives a glimpse into the area's rich Revolutuinary War history and is a few acres of serenity in an increasingly congested area. The house display some really unusual styles used in colonial decorating and homebuilding and the docents are quite well-versed. There is a small`shop and a barn with farm animals suitable for taking the grandkids.
