A roaring waterfall flows into a pool of clean clear Ozark Mountain Water. Sparkling clean, clear. Mountains of old smooth lava rock form the bedrock of the falls. Serene, beautiful. Picnic and swimming. Outdoor bathroom, nature trail. Picnic tables. Excellent Place to visit. One of the Ozark's best kept secrets!
Great place to visit with the family and enjoy the nature. Also good for picnic and have some hiking in the rocks.
I have been going to Eminence, Mo. for floating and camping since I was a child. I like wise have taken my children there. It is gorgeous and the Current River and the Jacks Fork river are spring fed, which make them crystal clear and VERY cold. The country side is beautiful. If you are going expecting modern day technology(you can barely get phone reception/no WIFI)...it's not the place for you. But, if you want beauty, a place the kids can have a good time and enjoy themselves and use their imagination... it's a must do. I have always loved going, but this last experience was incredible. We went with my son and family and he took us to a new place in that area(it's not new, just new to us)that some of the locals told him about. IF you are lucky and go at the right time(when we have had a good bit of rain during the season) it is AMAZING! The kids have a ball. As a grandparent it looked a little dangerous for the kids to play on ...but, that being said...not one child got hurt or anything the whole time we were there. AND, you if you are into photography you will fall in love with this place.
We spent an entire day sitting in the water or climbing the falls. Great gravel beach area to have a picnic. The water is so clear be sure to bring your snorkel gear.
For the extra drive, I will say it was okay. Pretty, yes. Crowded, very! This is an area you can tell is very utilized by the local people as a swim hole and destination. We saw it for about 15 minutes and then left. It was clean, pretty and had nice picnic spots, but just a lot of people and lots of noise.
We took four young teenagers to visit for a few hours in the evening. It had just rained pretty heavily the previous week and the water was really running. The kids climbed the falls and swam in the deep cool water. It was beautiful and fun--definitely worth the short drive there from Eminence.
My sister-in-law came down last summer with some family and I wanted to take them someplace beside the river. A friend had told me about Rocky Falls and how much fun it was. The drive there was about an hour from Salem down Hwy 19. It is located off of Route H which is off Route NN, east of Eminence. The place has a very pretty 40 ft.waterfall that lands in a large swimming area. You can climb the falls and slide down some small chutes. It wasn't very busy that day because I believe it was a week-day. We set up on a gravel area by the swimming area. The water was very cold but we all got in eventually. There was no shade on the gravel but we had brought an umbrella. Facilities include a vaulted toilet, trailside exhibits, picnic area and a multi-care parking lot. Numerous hiking trails surround the area and camping is available in several campgrounds in the area as well. Rocky Falls is part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. It is sure to please!
We went one day around noon...and the boys (13 & 16) had a great time playing in the water...climbing the falls and generally having fun. The water was crisp and cool. Very clean place. I would have liked to see some more picnic areas, but definitely worth the trip!
I Kewl place to see, hike, nature, picnic, history and so so much more, or just to spend some time enjoying nature, side walks to walk on or nature trails
I went to Rocky Falls again this year. I've gone for years now, generally every year early in the summer. It's a nice drive to the falls. Once you're there you're sort overwhelmed with how beautiful this area is. Formed about 1.5 billion years ago as molten rock flowing to the surface. The rhyolite rock is a harder rock which directed the shape of the falls into its formation only allowed it to move in its cracks rather than erode as it would have softer rock such as limestone.
We went down to Eminence, MO over labor day weekend. We go there a couple times a year, but we decided to check out Rocky Falls this time. So glad that we did! It was so pretty and relaxing. People took a trail up to the top of the falls if they wanted to on foot, but I chickened out along with a friend of mine. I heard the rocks are kind of slippery, but the view from the top is cool. They have picnic tables and benches if you want to take a picnic or you can have one on the beach. I don't have any pictures to post right now because I still have all of my great shots on my camera!
We have enjoyed many vacations in the Eminence Missouri area exploring the many big springs, streams, mills etc... There are not many water falls in the Show-Me state but Rocky Falls should be on yer list of things to checkout in the area.Be sure and climb the granite boulders for an up close look...This area offers many photo ops...See ya down the road... .. .O o- Carl (BC Mayor..=)~
We stopped at the Visitor's Center in Van Buren and she recommended that we go to Rocky Falls. What a nice little swimming area! The falls were beautiful. The area was very clean and the water was calm in the swimming area.
It's a beautiful little place where you could spend all day just playing in the water and climbing around. The rocks do get slippery so be careful!
This place is awesome! Being that it is summer and my visit was on a Saturday it was very busy with swimmers & people sun bathing, but I plan to come back in the Fall on a weekday and really soak it in. As another reviewer said it's a great place to play with your shutter speed on the ol' camera. Definitely worth seeing!
