Even in the snow, Trinity College is beautiful. Check out the Underground Cafe for a delicious warm beverage!
Trinity is the quintessential small New England liberal arts college. Arranged in quadrangles, it mimics its namesake Trinity College of Cambridge University right down to the clock tower and archways. However, campus wide architecture varies from Victorian style houses to the contemporary. Originally established by Anglicans, an imposing statue of one of its first presidents, Bishop Brownell stands guard on the hill overlooking the capitol city of Hartford and environs. A beautiful chapel dominates the main quadrangle and is open to visitors. Aside from these reminders of the school's religious history, the college nowadays boasts a diverse student body. Numerous cultural and educational events are open to the public, including daily offerings in its movie theater. A café in the lower level of "Mather Hall" is also open to the public.
Trinity College has an old theater where they show films like The Grand Budapest Hotel and The King's Speech. I enjoy walking across the beautiful campus to get to the theater. Trinity also has many cultural events open to the public- some with fees and some with no fees.
Throughout the summer months, bring your lawn chair or blanket, picnic on the Quad green, and enjoy the sounds of the 49-bell carillon, played from the tower of Trinity College Chapel. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a recital inside the Chapel, then moves out to the lawn for the 7:00 p.m. carillon concert played the staff carilloneur as well as visiting musicians.
Chapel is beautiful with stained glass windows and architecture. Buildings around quad and campus are worth a look. Nice public events held in chapel (lessons and carols, etc).
It's always a pleasure just going on campus, the students are so well behaved & even helpful. They have some attractions that are always worth the trip.
the church is GREAT - all hand carved pews - they have a book on the carvings - the windows are fantastic with sun on it in the summer they have free concerts on Wed. nights starting in late June - bring your own dinner in picnic basket and chair wonderfull place
Tourists from out of town won't find a lot at Trinity, but you should know about the Long Walk and the Chapel. The Long Walk is the core of the campus, built in the 19th century and is a true masterpiece of college architecture. The chapel, built in the early 20th century, is neo-Gothic, reminiscent of English medieval chapels. The stonework was laid by European artisans, and the interior features wonderful hand-carved symbolic figures on each pew. Try to visit during an organ recital -- a great experience. In the summer, sit on the quad with a picnic for the weekly carillon concert and enjoy the chamber concert in the chapel. Trinity also has one of the best squash teams and facilities in the U.S. -- fast-paced fun. Check their website for other offerings, but there usually aren't too many other things for outsiders. If you visit, parking is free, but try to park inside the campus to avoid a car break-in; enter at the Broad Street entrance, or park in the lots right up next to the Long Walk buildings on Summit Street, and you should be fine. Food is available in several spots on campus, including coffee and snacks in the library.
Want to catch the movie you didn't see when it first came out? How bout the movie that "never" came out in CT? Or a classic? Trinity - which also is a wonderful college - has a great little movie theater called Cinestudio. Go. Enjoy.
Beautiful campus, lovely people and the accommodations are wonderful but the campus surroundings can make one a bit uncomfortable if you are unaware.
The screen is big, the selction of movies is interesting, eclectic and not what you'll find in suburban cineplexes. If you love movies more than hype and franchises then Cinestudio is one of the best theatres in the state.
Surrounded yet by itself a green oasis in a town of gray. Harry Potter would be very comfortable in the Chappel or on the long walk
The great English architect William Burges desiged Trinity's Long Walk in the 1870s. It is North America's only Burges building and the finest example of collegiate gothic revival style.
Trinity College offers much for a variety of tastes and interests. The Chapel is a gem of neo-gothic architecture; and includes wonderful, locally symbolic carvings at the ends of each of the choir stalls. Classic high-Anglican but welcoming of all faiths. In the autumn, the Trinity Bantams showcase excellent NESCAC football featuring a very strong reputation for winning and disciplined, fair play. A good time is had by all fans. In the spring, the baseball team brings back the classic pastime on the gently sloping campus dotted with flowering trees. And through-out the academic year (and often beyond it), the Trinity Cine-studio offers a mix of classic and recent films of note. The prices are reasonable- and the general public has been responding to the ambiance and the progams for decades. Finally, the library is open for vistors- computers are available when checking in at the desk. Trinity is truly a first class establishment.
The college is in a very bad neighborhood. There are safer places to get a quality college experience.
