Thank you for visiting our winery. I'm so sorry to hear that you did not receive a typical experience at North Gate. On behalf of myself, my husband, and my staff, I apologize. While I try to be in the tasting room every day we are open, that's not always possible. But what would have been helpful to me is if you would have asked to speak to a manager during your visit so we could address the matter and ensure that you enjoyed your visit.
Very nice vineyard. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Wines are good. Viognier is one of my favorites and theirs did not disappoint. I would definitely add this winery to your list of stops and will go back when I am in the area.
I will start off by saying that I am a member of this winery, despite the fact that I live almost two hours away. They are worth the visit. They offer great wine in a beautiful venue. If you can go during an off time, do that. They will take the time to really tell you about the wine and the winery. The staff is passionate about their wine. They also offer a chocolate tasting for $5, which allows you to pair three chocolates with your wine.
My friends and I went there last weekend. The wines were nice and the tasting room is nice. They offered a nice variety of wines and foods. We discovered that we know the tasting room manager. I think this definitely a good place to go.
This is an absolutely beautiful winery with an indoor and outdoor fireplace, patio, love music. I was particularly intrigued by the white sangria and Apple wine. It was very busy on the day we went so our hostess was helping other people. She still managed to share a lot of info about the wines we were tasting. I've been here twice.
We went here last week along with two other people and really enjoyed the experience. Their tasting room is very ci fir table and they have seating both inside and outside. The ladies who cio ducted the tasting were very personable and rally made us feel like friends and welcome guests. We had brought our own cheese and other snacks so after the tasting, we ordered glasses of wine and sat outside to enjoy a beautiful afternoon. We ended buying bottles of wine to take home.
They have a nice list of wines, including some from 2011 (a wet year for vineyards in VA) which really weren't bad. The staff was pleasant and helpful and their tasting room was beautiful. The pours they offered for the tasting were generous and the price for a tasting was very fair as well. Definitely stop in for a glass or bottle and enjoy the atmosphere... we look forward to coming back.
Stopped here for a bite (definitely has more food choices than some other wineries in the area) with friends. What a nice place this would be to curl up near a fire and sip wine when it's cool out!! We sat a table and enjoyed a red wine...can't remember the name of it but it was GREAT! Also snacked on cheeses, warm bread, chocolates and dips! YUM!
Very good wine selection including cider and sangria. They have gourmet chocolates that are excellent as well.
We only had time to do one wine tasting during our visit and North Gate was recommended to us. We're glad that this was the place we tried. Our favorite was the signature apple wine and the ginger sangria. We did the wine tasting paired with the truffle tasting. We will absolutely be back!
stopped by here early Sunday afternoon and spent a lovely hour with one of the owners at a tasting of their wines paired with chocolate truffles from the truffle shop in frederick, md. then we sat outside and enjoyed a glass of rose with a warm baguette and gouda cheese. Lovely grounds, not overly commercialized. We bought several bottles and expect to enjoy them with some lovely dinners. we've been to about six vineyards in loudon; this one has now become our favorite.
nice place. visually appealing. wine is good as well. nice back yard and patio to sit and relax.only downside- an older female employee (not sure if she is related to owner but maybe) was a total (w)itch. it was as if we inconvienced her to order a bottle. she was too preoccupied with her friends... if u fired her, you have it made.
How interesting to hear about this Gold LEED certified winery! They produce some very good wines and the 2011 Meritage was a standout there. The fellow doing our tasting was a real character who was funny but very knowledgeable. It made for a fun visit!
I went with a group of four girlfriends to visit some of the wineries in February and this was one of our stops. When we arrived, we were greeted very nicely by one of the staff members, who was getting ready to set things up and told us it would only be a few minutes. Not a big deal, wineries get busy around here. However, we waited at least 15 minutes, AND another group of the same or larger size that came in after us got started on the tastings before us. You can pair the tastings with truffles, but North Gate should rethink the pricing strategy. It is cheaper to buy truffles separately than to get them as part of the wine tasting. Theoretically you would want to offer this as some type of deal, rather than making hte price higher for an add-on. Sadly, the wines didn't make up for our unsatisfactory experience, so I will not be back (the truffles were good). I wish North Gate all the best in remedying both their service and the quality of their products!
North Gate Vineyard is a treasure. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. It is a winery where you can order a glass of wine, sit by the beautiful floor to ceiling fireplace and relax at the end of the day, or enjoy time with friends. We had been wine tasting at different locations that day, North Gate was our last stop and it was the highlight of our day. We enjoyed a wine/ chocolate tasting with Dave. He not only offered information about the various wines, but also suggested places to visit in the area ( we are from out of state ) along with wonderful stories about the history of the area. The wines are wonderful. The chocolates are delectable. Dave was interesting and very witty. He is, hands down, the type of person that you want behind the tasting bar when you visit a winery. We only wish we lived closer, we would be frequent visitors of North Gate Vineyard.
