This church is located in Dubina, the first Czech settlement in Texas. I thought it was one of the most beautiful of the painted churches we visited. I loved the stars painted on the sky blue ceiling. Visitors are limited to viewing from the foyer area unless part of a tour group. Nevertheless, we could still see a great deal of this beautiful church. The church thoughtfully provided a pamphlet detailing the history of the settlement of Dubina and the church.
One of the fanciest of the historic "Painted Churches" scattered around this corner of Central Texas. You can obtain a map of them from the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce or on the PBS station's KLRU.org website. Well worth a visit!
One of the 6 painted churches I have visited along Hwy 90 inthe Schulenburg area. Colors are beautiful. So worth the stop!
This is one of many painted churches. The archways are high and almost gothic in appearance. Pictures don't do justice because once you walk into these churches you feel a blanket of peace fall over you. No reservations needed after all its a house of God and one of the few that remains unlocked. Beautiful place to meditate. My children loved it. It's listed in Shulenburg but its really in Dubina. So don't be surprised if your GPS tells you so. Enjoy!
