We came here for dinner, as well as their Wednesday Night Jam. Who could resist free live music?Sengelmann Hall has been restored beautifully, reminiscent of its golden days. The atmosphere and music here is about the best you'll find in the tiny town of Schulenburg, so it's worth a stop.I wasn't really in the mood for an actual entree, so I got an order of Nacho Fries and an order of Fried Pickle Chips. Ambiance aside, the food pretty much rolls out of the kitchen at a snail's pace, at least it does on busy nights. It took almost an hour to get our order. This isn't a big problem when you're a local and like to visit with other Schulenburgians. If you're from out of town, I'd imagine this might be more aggravating. With the Nacho Fries, I was expecting gooey nacho cheese, but instead got melted cheddar. I liked the thick natural cut fries though. They weren't extremely flavorful on their own, but the jalapenos fixed that. The Pickle Chips were definitely more crisp than ordinary fried pickles. I liked the batter, though it was a tad too salty. I asked for some ranch dressing (which in my opinion should have been provided in the first place). It took 10-15 minutes for it to arrive, by which point I'd already eaten over half of the pickles.Jam Night is great if you just want beer and music, but it's probably not the best time for food.Read my other reviews, complete with pictures:The Barbecue Fiendhttp://barbecuefiend.blogspot.com

The food was excellent and very historical building. Very interesting decor and history about the building. The menu is diverse and everything I have tried there has been very good and price is reasonable.

This is centrally located between Houston, Austin and San Antonio, so it ended up being a great place for a work/business meeting for staff coming from those cities. Staff and service very friendly and accommodating. They even gave us each BBQ sliders for the road. The brownies and the peach cobbler are to die for. Now that I have discovered this gem, I look forward to returning to experience it from a social aspect.

This is a Texas dance hall at its best! People were friendly and music was great. It's a historic building and worth the trip.

It is DEFINETLY wortha stop and see, it is a wonderful old building, problem is, its a guess whether it will be open or not, and don't count on food or drink as a SURE thing.....they may have, may not????

We read about this place in the Houston Chronical a year or so ago, and remembered it while returning from San Antonio. We drove around the town looking for antiques and such, and drove right up on it. They weren't opened yet, so we peaked in the windows. The hostess saw us and invited us in, giving us a tour of the restaurant and dance hall. This place was AMAZING. The antique bar welcoming you at the entry is only the beginning. The restaurant is beautiful and showcases the original ice-box. But the best part is the dance hall upstairs. It was like stepping back in time - couldn't help but imagine the dancers from days gone by. The beauty of the historical building is captivating. My husband and I just had to two-step a little - even without the music. We will definitely go back when they have a band scheduled.
