Wife and I booked all day 4x4 tour. Like other reviews we had Bob. He was terrific. Showed us all the great things to see. He was very knowledgable. We left at 9am and didn't get back until 530. One thing I recommend is go to the Subway shop next to their store and get something for lunch. The lunch they provide leaves a bit to be desired, in spite of that still highly recommend. Thanks Bob!

I was fortunate to have Bob as my tour guide for a day trip to the Cathedral Valley. Bob provided a great experience for my highly anticipated trip to this beautiful and remote place. Bob had extensive knowledge about the history, geology, flora and fauna of the area. He shared this information in an entertaining and interesting dialog that kept the trip interesting from start to finish. It was an added bonus that Bob is an accomplished photographer who provide helpful advice on positions for shots, light and good photo spots. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and will most likely do it again. Thanks Bob and Backcountry Outfitters!

Bob was our guide on the tour and like others here, we thought he was a fantastic guide. His knowledge of the area, geology, history and sense of humour made it an extremely enjoyable day. We ended up returning to Torrey after 6pm, so it was a very full day of extraordinary views. The area is very remote and I can't imagine driving it myself, having no off-road experience (and of course rental car insurance doesn't cover unpaved roads). It's definitely worth taking the tour to see this breathtaking place, especially with such a great guide.

My experience with Backcountry Outfitters Day Tours was disappointing as I payed for horseback ride and they had no horses, just one mule. They did'n refund 68 u$ although I did not make it (because I don't make "mule rides") . I payed for a horseback rides not a mule-rides. They cheated me !!!!! Dr. Marcelo Torino Buenos Aires. My dad and I were the only people on the Cathedral Valley tour with Bob, and it was a blast! Bob was extremely accommodating with letting us stop to take pictures, and he entertained us the whole drive with his extensive knowledge of the area. We stopped for a picnic lunch at a campground, but gnats drove us back into the truck. We finished the Cathedral Valley portion of the tour early, so Bob took us to Thousand Lake Mountain and Fishlake. What a treat to be able to see portions of Utah that so few people get to visit. It was incredible to see the variety of terrain. Who knew aspen forests were so close to Capitol Reef? Thank you, Bob, for being so personable and letting us invade your truck for the day. You are phenomenal!

We took the Cathedral Valley tour with Scott. He was very personable and knowledgeable about the area. It's a long tour-about 7 hours-but it's really something to see if you have the time in the area. The places he takes you to are really remote and are some of the best parts of the park.

The trip is only and good as the guide and Bob is one good guide: an eye for photographic opportunities, a working knowledge of the local rock formations and past lava flows up dikes still standing. We wanted to take a few side hikes and Bob knows them all and was glad to take us "behind the scenes". Cathedral Valley was new to us even though we are very familiar with the southwest. A little of Monument Valley, and a touch of FischerTowers, and then there is what Bob called, "the Serengetti", and no, there is nowhere else like it. And no, you cannt just drive through without a guide. But, about the lunch, I'd suggest picking one up at the Subway next door. These guys cook like Old West Guides.

We spent a full day in cathedral valley with our guide-Bob. Outstanding from start to finish. We saw the entire scene in Cathedral Valley-Temple of the Sun & Moon, Glass Mtn. Aside from knowing seemingly everything about the area, Bob is a professional photographer- who gave advice to this amateur. Capitol Reef is essentially 2 distinct areas-you can drive the lower portion (BURR trail) with a SUV, I highly recommend a guide with proper vehicle to do Cathedral Valley.

Had a great guide - Bob - who took us all over the park. Absolutely stunning scenery. I had seen the photos of the Sun and Moon temple on-line - but nothing compares to being there. Also - Wall of Jericho, Cathedral towers, gypsun hill - there is just so much! And Bob is a very gracious guide. Looking forward to coming back!

Did the four hour trail ride with julie and Pippen. Julie is a real cowgirl with spurs and chaps. Pippen is sheep dog/wayne county rescue. we had a great time. I laughed and giggled. This is not your typical trail ride werehorses just follow set path. we had lots of fun

When I was planning a Grand Circle trip in Utah, I posted a question about 4WD hire for the National Parks. This ended up with killer_bob, a Destination Expert here on TripAdvisor Forums for Capitol Reef, answering my question. Another member then recommended him as a guide, so I took it as a good sign and booked with the company he drives for.The tour went ahead as booked on April 25th, a cloudy day as it turned out. killer_bob turned out to be a fellow Brit called Bob, who was an expert guide and a very friendly and accommodating fellow indeed. The tour was meant to run from 9am to 4-5pm, but he said that he would be happy to stop at any point to allow us to take photos, ask questions, or just see things. This we abused merrily, plugging in our satnav into his vehicle in order to get a GPS tracklog and constantly stopping to take photos, to the point where we returned some time after 6:30pm. He busied himself during our planned and unplanned stops, explaining landscape features and plants, and taking photographs of plants himself. He also pointed out interesting but unnamed rock formations, like the one we've dubbed "K9" (due to the remarkable resemblance). Both my friend (who shared his interest in photographing plants and flowers) and I thoroughly enjoyed our day, and we would wholeheartedly recommend him and his company for their 4x4 tour of the Cathedral Valley loop.

We planned to only pass through Torrey on our way to Bryce Canyon, but as soon as we drove through Capitol Reef National Park we knew we had to stay longer to explore. What a beauatiful area! We both used to ride horses as kids, so when we saw the sign for guided horseback riding at this store by the gas station, we found out we could ride horses in the national park. We booked a half day ride for the next morning and went to a very stunning place called Pleasant Creek. It was a warm day, but the trail passes through the water many times and we had a nice lunch break in the shade, so it was just fine. We've forgotten our guide's name, but she was just so kind and professional, very knowledgable about the area, and she really knew every turn of this beautiful ride. The petroglyphs she showed us were amazing. Our horses we do remember! Splash and Eli, thank you for a wonderful ride. We will return someday for another trip there.
