quaint little town hidden in the great metropolis of Memphis. Tons of great eateries, nice parks, cute town square.
The town square has historical monuments of the battle of Collierville. There is a train engine and caboose to inspect, a stage coach stop.over station and a nice park located in the square. There are several restaurants as well as outfitters and clothing stores along with you usual antique and gift shops. We ate at.Dyers restaurant and had a decent meal!Locally owned and the service ice was great!Nice side trip for 2 hours.
Go in Christmas or any time of the year. Beautiful gem right in the middle of the city of Collierville that provides a glimpse of days gone. Lots of activities go in on the area and great local places to shop and eat.
We visited Collierville over Christmas. The square was beautifully decorated for the season. We visited during the day and night. The main tree was so beautiful! The shops we visited were quaint and not "touristy" at all like some town squares. The historical markers were very informative for the history buffs of the family. I hope to spend more time in the square when we come back for a visit.
Interesting shops and eateries surround the town park with gazebo. Beautiful just now with thousands of Christmas lights and a huge tree. Santa in the gazebo. Wonderful spot for locals and travelers alike.
Collierville knows this old town square is a gem and has done a lot to preserve its charm and attraction. Located next to an active railroad track, there are a couple of old train cars including a locomotive on a side spur on display. The little tree-filled park next to this has a gazebo where summer concerts play to many people sitting on blankets and beach chairs. Three sides around the park have restaurants and shops so it's a very walkable place. The shops are varied: antique, accessory, western and the restaurants include a down-home country cafe with a reasonable menu and very friendly atmosphere, a burger/catfish joint and an Italian cafe right across the tracks. (You might find yourself looking for Opie and Aunt Bea!)
Collierville is such a wonderful place. The town square was recently named America's best in Parade magazine. A stroll along the square's sidewalks takes you past small shops, restaurants, service stations, clothiers and a train station staffed with genuinely friendly local owners and employees. The selections are great and the square park and gazebo are an excellent respite after shopping. A great place to relax, review the days purchases, meet new friends and enjoy the experience. Summer brings free concerts to the gazebo, while Christmas brings out the true beauty of the season. Just east of Germantown, Collierville is a slight detour into a time machine to the past.
Very quaint, clean downtown square, kept up well with several activities, I enjoyed antique shops and also has a new outside mall near with all upscale shops.
An historic town that is very clean and has embraced modern suburban-type expansion without losing its identity.
Love to sit here with a cup of coffee and just take in the beautiful scenery. Great shopping and some nice restaurant choices.
This town square was rated as the number one town square in the country by Parade Magazine. I don't know if it is the best in the country, I have not visited that many. However, it is worth a visit. There is a very nice park in the middle, surrounded by some fun shops and eating establishments. Historical markers in the park detail some of the history of the area.
Anyone in the area who misses this beautifully restored town square has deprived themselves of a treat. On one side of the square is the old train depot and tracks that are still in use. The other three sides contain commercial activity including unique restaurants and stores. A park is in the middle whit a large gazebo. The square is beautifully maintained and decorated for activities - especially for Christmas which I think is the best time to visit. It is also the location of a minor Civil War battle when it was the focus of a Confederate attack attempting to cut the Memphis-Charleston railroad which was supplying Sherman's relief of Chattanooga at the time.
Every time we go to Collierville we visit the town square. There is a historic cabin you can peek inside for free. A good variety of restaurants, a beautiful central park to sit in the shade, a few stores for shopping and farther off the square, many historical buildings and interesting architecture.
I loved walking around this town and it's cute town square. It is full of history, and the people of the town, particularly the businesses, seem proud of it. There's a cool mural, train cars to walk around and through, and friendly folks at the visitor center. Take a look around!
The Collierville Historic District is a great example of what happens when local folks decide to display their pride in their heritage by rolling up their sleeves and getting to work. The town square is what you envision when you think of a Norman Rockwell print. Surrounded by small independently owned stores and restaurants that each offer unique goods with a personal touch. Friday nights are filled with the sounds of music as people just show up and play whatever instrument they have in the park. Holidays are treated as special occasions, it is a big part of our Christmas celebrations. The people are nice and the history is evident. From the trains to the exhibit detailing the Civil War Battle of Collierville it is very interesting, clean and just down home fun.
