You have to have a beach pass. I like to go there in September to fish primarily but we will go there or Gooches Beach to catch some rays. You should get there early. Parking is a premium. If you don't mind walking, then bring a pull along cart and park between the two beaches and pull your stuff along.
there's no place like a beach in Maine. The beach is well maintained and the people you meet are friendly.
This beach is fantastic, but if you go there before 9 am just be aware that it allows dogs on it, and there are a LOT of dogs on it!My wife and I recently stayed at The Beach House (which was fantastic) and the first morning after breakfast we decided to take a walk on the beach. We witnessed hundreds of dogs (and their owners) walking the beach and then all of a sudden we heard a whistle and all of the owners hustled to get their dogs off the beach, it was quite the site. Most of the owners followed the rules, but there is always the few that ruin it for the rest by leaving something behind (if you know what I mean) which can make the walk on the beach slightly more treacherous.
Very shallow sloped sand beach going into the water, with a children's playground overlooking the beach. Also a good place to watch waves crashing on the rocks some distance away after a storm.
Taking Sea Road toward the ocean, you then pick up Beach Ave where Mother's Beach connects to Middle beach which connects to Gooch's Beach which is part of the Kennebunk Beaches.Depending on the season, the water is cold but not unswimmable unless you're a native Southerner where all the waters are generally warmer. it's dog and kid friendly, but since it's the Atlantic , does have tides every 6 hours that go out and come in which New Englanders relish for many reasons. but on a great day, it's such a fun place to be. Since it's September I won't bore you with swimming tips, but I must say just a few beaches up the coast on Gooserocks Beach area, we did actually go in the water in September on an 80 degree day. You just have to do it, and watch the tides but it's so refreshing !!
The water temperature is just above freezing and that is part of the charm in Maine. The beach is beautiful even if you dare not swim.
Clean, pretty and lightly attended. There are no restaurants near here so bring your own food. Go early or late to get parking. There is metered parking now so beach passes not required.
We took beach chairs and our dogs and sat outside and enjoyed the rocks and view. Great day. Parking wasn't too bad either. Parking permit needed.
newly renovated kids park, smaller sized beach for a cozier feel. only problem is parking spaces are quite limited.
The surf is perfect - not too intense, and not boringly flat. The beach is wonderful, and people are polite and not loud or obnoxious. It is one of our favorite places.
Gets crowded quickly since there isnt alot of parking but the two lifeguards are right there to watch
Mother's beach is good if you want a playground for your children. If you don't have children, then there are other beaches nearby that are bigger with more parking available.
I don't "get" the draw to Mother's Beach. It's not attractive, there's little parking, and all of the other Kennebunk/Kennebunkport beaches are nicer. Yes, there's an old playground adjacent to it, but the beach is in a wickedly inconvenient corner location, and there are always tons of people wandering around in the parking area and in the intersection. I'm always afraid I'll run into a darting child or dog in my car on that curve. No matter how slowly I'm going, that thought occurs to me every time.
Mothers' Beach is a small sandy location that is perfect for small children. The area is enclosed by rocks at high tide, with a wide area of sandy beach between. There is also a playground. While parking is limited and requires a permit during the summer, it's a wonderful place that isn't overwhelming for little ones.
The beach has a huge playground. There are lifeguards there and plenty of rocks to climb on.We had a blast.Very clean as well.
