This is an interesting experience. A unique collection of a unique part of automotive history housed in a beautiful old structure. The knowledgeable and friendly hostess guided us through all of the exhibits and we even got to sit in one of the Steamers! Well worth the time and the reasonable fee.Probably will not appeal to kids as much as it does to adults.

Loved the steam cars, violins, photographs and other collected items in the Stanley. The twin Stanley brothers, and their talented extended family, left an interesting heritage.

What a fun and surprising place. The Stanley twins did so much more than just invent the stanley steamer automobile. If you are anywhere in the area and museum is open, treat yourself to a great experience.

We stumble upon this remarkable off-the-mountain gem on a winter ski weekend that was sadly disrupted by windy weather. Our group of intrepid explorers (we were really in search of a good bar open in the late morning ;-) ) stumbled upon this museum and moseyed in. We learned about steam power, early Americana, and the heritage of Kingfield Maine’s own remarkable inventor. The museum staff is knowledgeable, interesting, and very friendly. There are even a few working ‘Stanley Steamer automobile within the display. As with so many early American inventors, Stanley invented many apparatuses relevant to many diverse fields… His assortment of discovery and gadgetry are quite large and a significant collection is contained in this humble museum. If you have a few hours and want to explore something other than pine or moose knick-knacks saunter off the main street and take in this extraordinary little museum. Really interesting and worth the time.

Wonderful original examples of the Stanley Steamer, a steam engine powered automobile of the early 20th century.

Extraordinarily restored automobiles! On a scale between 1-10, the cars get a 10 for restoration (10 is the best score). I never knew that the Stanley brothers were so innovative. A definite must see on a drive through Kingfield. A hidden gem indeed! $4 covers a lot of history.

This museum shows the involvement of the Stanley bros in the steam engine, both in Maine and Colorado. Nicely done, but small, plan on investing an hour or less. The small staff was very helpful when we were there.
