The best part of this plantation was the grounds, beautiful moss covered trees, lovely grounds. The mystery tour was interesting, with historic facts yet the hauntings, legends and ghosts...that you have to decide or believe for yourself. The photos we took while touring the grounds turned out beautifully.
My friends and I did a haunted tour at night. The tour guide made the experience a lot of fun. She was very dramatic and mixed in a lot of humor to make the tour very enjoyable. I would recommend you do the night tour when you are in the St. Francisville.
We headed to St. Francisville after spending several days in New Orleans and decided to have dinner at the Carriage House at The Myrtles followed by a Mystery tour of the plantation house that evening. Reservations are done separately and 90 minutes is suggested for dinner prior to the start of the tour; that proved to be spot on for us with appetizers, entree and dessert. The food at the Carriage House was good and featured traditional Southern fare. The service was friendly and accommodating; our waitress was particularly pleasant and was honest and thoughtful with recommendations. Following an enjoyable meal we proceeded to the fountain outside the entrance of the house for the mystery tour. It was dark and the lighting of the rooms was also kept low to keep the mysterious ambiance. The furnishings were gorgeous as well as the chandeliers and other aspects of the house such as the crown molding. We would have loved to seen the house during the day with better lighting and more attention to the furnishings, but the evening tours are dedicated to the mysterious elements of the house's history. While this was entertaining, I would have enjoyed a little more back story on the house itself. Many of the people on our tour had already done the more traditional daytime tour and knew more that we did. Having said this, it was a fun way to end an evening and our tour guide added a large dose of local color to the experience. This was the third plantation we visited during our trip and each offered unique views of antebellum Louisiana. The tour was fairly short--about 45 minutes--for the evening mystery tour.
Great to learn the history of the plantation wish the tour was a little longer. Stayed in the caretakers cottage. Breakfast was good.
Great staff, great people, comfortable room. Considerate people. We will be going back in April. We visited in January and it was very, very cold but they did everything necessary to keep us comfortable and happy.
Our tour guide was informative. Our check-in was perfect. Our stay was very nice. Breakfast was lovely.
The staff was great no doubt about that. Our room was clean and they even let us check in early. Down side it's severly overpriced. I wouldn't stay here again. It was one of those things that past history has sparked curiosity.
Loved the Friday night mystery tour. My relatives love history and were so impressed with the details of the history of the house. Plus, the mystery tour is more about the "hauntings", so that made it even more special.
I've been wanting to come to the Myrtles Plantation for over 15 years. I was extremely excited as this was also my first B&B experience. It was sad to hear about the fire and I'm glad the house wasn't damaged. The trailer is kind of an eye sore when you first pull in, but what can you do? The ladies working the office were extremely friendly and wanting to help us. The bed was a little stiff and not that comfortable and the decor could have used some finesse but overall it was beautiful. Also breakfast starting at 6 seems a little early for me.We had an amazing experience and would come back again. So what if you can't take pictures inside other than the foyer? Anybody who has done a historical tour should know you can't take pictures. The lady giving the tour was awesome, very friendly and personable. One of the best parts of the Plantation was all the little kitties running around. Made the place feel more like a home, they were all so sweet and it was fun watching play on the grounds. I wonder if the ghost girls like to play with them?
Only positive thing I have to say is that the house/grounds are beautiful. Really takes you back to the way things were back then.1) when I reserved the room we were promised a ghost tour, not a historic tour and I quote "We reserve spots for all of our guests for the ghost tour" Not true! I ended up paying an additional charge for something that was supposed to be included- not a good way to start off.2) we get to our room and the first thing I noticed is old and out dated the bedding was, very VERY hard mattress, the bathroom had holes in the wall underneath the sink, and the walls are paper thin. We heard a gaggle of girls All. Night. Long. When you pay 115.00 for a room one would expect more out of a room then ratty bedding with a bathroom that clearly needed a good cleaning and fixing up.3) the tour of the house was good, nice tour guide but you can't take pictures inside the house? Seriously? 4) the on-site restaurant staff are beyond rude. The person who sat my husband asked how many would be dining, he said two, the waiter grabbed a menu and walked off. My husband followed but it turned out the host was bringing a dessert menu to another couple and he turned around and asked my husband "what are you doing here? Can't you wait?" then sat us at a table where we saw our waitress only twice 1) to take our order 2) to bring us the check. A nice bus boy took care of us and refilled our drinks and bring us stuff THAT SHE FORGOT. (Food was good, not going to lie)5) and to top everything else off a male maid walked in on us in our room while we were napping before our long ride home an hour before check out without knocking! Seriously? Learn to freaking knock! These people are just skating by on their haunted reputation who only cares about the money they make and not about the guests that stay there. Serious changes need to be made for the prices you charge your guests to stay on the plantation.
Was very interested to see for ourselves if this "plantation" was haunted or not. While not a plantation in my mind's eye, I could see how it was considered one back in the 1800's. I have to say I was not overly impressed with the overall experience and the room we stayed in was adequate. There are no televisions, which was okay, but I prefer showers and our room only had a tub (which can be difficult to use after you attain certain ages . . . lol). I never saw or experienced anything supernatural, but we did not stay in the main manor where most of the hauntings are said to occur. It was interesting, but the various television programs have hyped it up beyond what you really experience - which for us, was nothing.
I was here a couple years ago and a tour guide named Piper did the tour then, and she was fantastic! Thank goodness she did part of the tour this time as well, I brought my sister and daughter along our trip to LA, and the myrtles had to be a stop for us. We have seen the countless tv shows filmed there and we had to go. We took the night tour the day after Halloweeen, the guides were all fantastic at story telling, there were little kids and senior citizens, and I think everyone equally enjoyed the fantastic tour, it had a little history and a little spookiness. Thanks you for making this a great tour!
My friend and I had a wonderful experience. We were greeted with smiles and left wanting to return. The grounds were beautiful. The tour with Lisa was awesome. You could really feel her enthusiasm for Louisiana history. We will most definitely be making a return trip. Very relaxing!!
Came all the way from Los Angeles to New Orleans for the Saints/Greenbay game this past week - Geaux Saints! Anyway, rented a car for the day and we drove up to Mrytles. Was really looking forward to this part of our vacation as Mrytles was featured on several T.V. shows for being the "most haunted plantation in the country". When we arrived, we bought our $10.00 per person tour ticket. What a joke the tour was. The lady that did the tour was awesome but seriouisly, to charge $10 pp to walk through 4 of the downstairs rooms, really?. Upstairs is off limits because those room are rented to guests and you are only allowed to take pictures in the foyar, no other rooms. That was it. That's the tour. Didn't see anything ghostly nor feel anything gostly that the guide refers to. Which was fine. The grounds however, were absolutely beautiful. If visiting in the summer months, be sure to spray yourself with bug spray because the chiggers were horrible. We walked the entire grounds and I can't say enough how relaxing and calming it felt. If you are looking for a large plantation home to tour through entirely, this is not the place and in my opinion, not worth stopping at unless you plan to stay the night and hope to encounter a ghostly experience.
I've been planing this tour for 6 months now the day did not turn out right when we showed up we were late but Katie stopped everything an filed us in on what we had missed she's very knowlagble on all things myrtles..... We're sorry the gift house burned down because we would have loved to get some trinkets from yall but I'll be back someday
