Check the website for directions off Hwy 98 near Elberta, Al. Small working Dairy Farm with a little country store selling homemade cheeses. Delicious sampling available. Several local speciality items also for sale. The owners are so nice and enjoy visiting with the guests.
The Sweet Home Farm offers a delicious variety of locally made cheeses. These are truly "home made." You can see the milk cows in the field on the way to the quaint little shop where you can taste and buy fresh cheese, local honey and other local delicacies. Check their website schedule before you go. The shop is only open for a few hours on specific days. Don't miss the Sweet Home Farm when you visit the Gulf Coast!
We stop here every time we're in the area. Their pimento cheese is the best! Such a nice place to go.
My family visited Sweet Home Farm this spring. Well worth the time if you're in the Fairhope/foley/Gulf Shores area.
Saw a brochure and planned a special trip to be there when they opened on a Friday morning. Followed the directions and ended up down a dead-end road with a big dually truck... managed to turn around and then as we passed a very eerie looking driveway, we realized that was the place! There was absolutely no way we could drive our truck in this driveway - it was overgrown with shrubs/trees and we couldn't see anything... not sure if attack dogs or anything else was lurking around so we high-tailed it out of there. It may be a nice place, but they need signage and they need to clear their driveway a bit so people can see what's there. Might be a nice place, but it was a very disappointing and a wasted trip for us.
Sweet Home Farm cheese is just delicious! Lots of choices too. Bama jack is great, Tuscan and garlic gouda cheeses are also. You can even get a jalapeño cheese - not for kiddies, tho. Hours of operation are Friday and Saturday only from 10 AM to 5 PM. Worth a side trip, but bring a cooler to keep the cheese happy. Look for a smallish sign on the North side of US 98 about 1/2 mile east of Elberta.
A small family farm but the cheese they make is hugely delicious. Amazing taste and quality. I have eaten cheese in a number of places and this is absolutely some of the best ever! Small place and only open Fri and Sat 10-5. Favorite......all of them!
There's nothing like the cheese we got here the family controls every bit of the products from grass to milk to cheese ALL ORG..and the owners are so very nice even offered to vacuum package smaller amounts of our products to help us get it home to Ohio for our families to taste this wonderful little spot...jimbo
My second trip to the Cheese Farm! Delicious cheeses at a "down home" business! Questions are answered with knowledge and experience. Samples are given with patience. The cheeses are delightful! It is hard to choose my favorite:
We go to Sweet Home 4-5 times per year. We buy cheese to last for months. Everyone we serve it to in every dish raves about it. We give assortments of their cheeses for gifts and get ecstatic responses. Buy twice what you think you'll use. Never leave there without a pound of Elberta and a pound of Bama Jack.
This was another recommendation by our daughter for our trip to Gulf shores. It is no far from Hillcrest Farm. Again this is not a fancy set up, but the owners are very personable and encourage you to try their cheeses. They are a bit pricey but the are artesian cheeses and the flavors are so good! We bought 4 quarter pound packages and a loaf of locally made bread. We were really lucky for they will be closed for the month of January to restock and do maintenance. If you are in the area after Feb 1st, don't miss this gem.
Brought my mom in from CA to visit and enjoyed a sampling from the deli case. Our favorite was Perdido. We got a few 1/4 samplings to make grilled cheese with at the house. YUM! It made me happy to show this hidden gem to my momma. The nostalgia when you walk in the door, the yummy smell of fresh cheese and bread is amazing.
We stop by here after the sausage festival but really need to come here for its own sake. The cheese is exceptionally good. They always have a variety of interesting cheeses and decadent treats like cheese fudge. The location is lovely too, and a gorgeous autumn day makes it even nicer.
The first time I had Elberta Cheese was as a dip in a restaurant in Gulf Shores in 2011 and I was hooked! So I said that the next time I was in the area I was going to make sure I was there on a Friday or Saturday so I could get some Elberta cheese. Little did I know what a "wonderland of cheese" I was about to walk into when I went to this wonderful, out-of-the-way farm! The little cheese shop was packed full of people and there was so many different types of cheese to pick from. I went home with several different varieties and they were all absolutely fantastic!!! It is well worth making sure that you can be in the area to get by. I plan on going again in the near future! The folks at Sweet Home Farm were all so nice and helpful!
If you are in the area make sure you stop here! The cheese is so delicious! My daughter can't eat cheese from a regular deli because of digestive problems but she tried this cheese and had no problems! Just make sure you bring cash.
