Film was great way to get some background on the area. Staff went out of there way to be helpful. Ground are beautiful if you just want to sit awhile and take in nature.
So enjoyed this place. So many info centers I could have skipped- not this one. See the falls. Beautiful when the leaves change and not crowded.
This place is to me a picture of what they're trying to teach. The building itself is made of recycled materials, their heating is geo-thermal, and I believe they have a natural water source (could possibly be mistaken about that). It's a neat place in itself. I actually wouldn't know that information except for watching their movie. It's a 20-minute presentation. I don't believe there are any set times, you just tell them that you want to view the movie and they turn it on for you. The movie engenders an appreciation for Little River Canyon in particular. I'm glad that we went there before going to the Canyon. THE MOVIE IS A MUST!The other part that's a must is picking up a MAP. The map is invaluable for finding the overlooks and getting to enjoy more of the canyon than just the first spot where the fall is.The movie says they have lots of special events, teaching biology of the area and ecology, etc. Would be worth finding out dates and times before making a trip, especially if you have children.
They had a special event the day we were there. There were several vendors with arts & crafts available that we enjoyed shopping. The facility had very nice amentities. The staff had maps and displays to explain the area.
After a recommendation from our hotel manager, we headed to here......they don't open till 10 am. Really? We set out early to enjoy the early morning mountain drive. Would have loved to learned more info, as I'm sure we missed things. Looked for the trailhead to the falls from here...walked all around the building, it's a shame the government workers who work there couldn't at least show some southern hospitality and say hello , can I help you, or even "we open at 10" but go this way to the falls . Disappointing.
The canyon center is both beautiful and esucational. JSU offers many educational events for children of all ages and adults as well. The hikes they guide are awesome. Absolutely beautiful scenery. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. There are many pamplets on information regarding the center, the area, and the Little River National Preserve. Absolutely worth a trip and a look at their website for upcoming events.
First class facility and nice gift shop. This is a great location for meetings and events for any size group.
The staff is extremely helpful, and made my visit to the Little River Canyon National Preserve excellent. The staff provided excellent recommendations about a place to eat nearby, and more importantly about what to see along the scenic drive.
Very nice center with plenty of information about the canyon. There is a 30 video that shows the whole preserve.
We almost didn't go there, but so glad we did! There you'll find all the info you need plus a great video!
This place is pretty much brand new and clean with nice restrooms and all the information you ever need to know about the park and canyon.
The people there are amazing! We went with five of our grandsons, age 8 - 14. The staff at the center focused on the boys and did everything to be sure they would have a great experience. The movie that was shown was enough to hold thier interest and each of the boys got books and badges for being there. They loved it!
Little River Canyon Center is a first class site. Jacksonville State University and it's sponsors, like Randy Owen, have done a fabulous job in creating a place to study the sciences and to provide a place for exploration and education. There are lots of trails for hiking and a beautiful sites to be seen.
