Summer is great with hiking, swimming and camping. we have had family reunions and birthday party's there. they have a small jungle Jim play area for small children. About eight miles from Huntsville City and 20 miles to Eureka Springs City. Roads are great for motorcycles.
Withrow is free entry. They do lots of free kid programs every summer. There is a pool available (minimal charge). Beautiful area and proud to say it's in my backyard. The staff is always friendly.
I had a few concerns about this hike, both because I had read that it was rated moderate to strenuous and because of my issues with fear of heights. It sounded so cool, though, that I decided to give it a try anyway, deciding ahead of time that if it was too much I'd just turn around and go back. I loved it! The creek was big enough to look like a river. The bluff had an area where a layered rock ledge went out over the creek. It made a very tranquil place to go sit and enjoy the overview of the area. The trail itself never went close enough to the edge to trigger my fear of heights, although there was one place that did for a few feet when I went out walking along the rock ledge. (Going out was fine, but it looked a lot more drastic when I turned around to go back.) I wouldn't classify the trail more than moderate. HOWEVER, all this said, I certainly wouldn't bring small children on the trail because there are plenty of places there are steep drop-offs that could result in serious accidents.
If you want a quiet place to camp that is easy to get to and convenient to Huntsville, the Withrow Springs is the place. I have camped here several times over the past 18 years and I'm never disappointed. Great place to stay.
This is a great place to picnic or RV camp. It is always a few degrees cooler in this valley in the summer months.
We love Withrow Springs. In the spring we dust off our camping gear and start off the season here. Our boys 3 and 8yo, love the hikes and spring. In the summer there is a pool that has a slide and water features. Great for spring, summer and fall.
For clarification, I am only rating the campground as it relates to RV and Trailer camping. No consideration is given for other aspects of a campground/park, such as swimming pools, clubhouses, or activities such as fishing or canoeing. Also, many campgrounds may have a variety of quality. My assessment is base on what I perceive as the best they have to offer. I use a two part rating system. The first is based on the basic elements that most campgrounds provide. The value for each of the items is fixed. This puts all campground on the same level based on what they provide. The second and final rating is based on another set of fixed values for things that I think should be part on any quality campground such as good maintenance and cleanliness. I then add a fudge factor just based on my opinion of the value and aesthetics of the campground. Occasionally I will throw in a note to explain my evaluation. Most any campground can earn at least a basic 5.0 rating. For me an acceptable campground for a multiple night stay will have to have a final rating of 7.0 or above. Very few campgrounds will go over a 9.0 with 10 being the max. On Trip advisor a 6.5 to 7.4 is equivalent to 3 circles, four circles will be 7.5 to 8.4 and 5 circles are above will be 8.5 and above.Withrow Springs State Park 33424 Spur 23 Huntsville 72740,RV/Trailer Campsite review: the park has 30 individual campsites. All 30 campsites are paved (good width with decent back-in ease), Electricity Hookup: all have 50/30 Amp connections, Water Hookup: Yes, Sewer Hookup: Yes, Grills/Fire Ring: Yes, Picnic Table: Yes, Comfort Station: Yes. Value = 8.25 Secondary rating. Based on the good maintenance of the sites, good separation between sites, cleanliness of the comfort stations and the overall value and appeal of campground I added 0.5 points to the rating, for an overall rating of 8.75. If they would just do a few small things, better bath drying area in the comfort station or add laundry facility they would rate a 9 or above. Satellite TV reception depends on your site location. There is no WIFI and AT&T cellular does not work. We stayed Oct. 2014 for five nights (30 Ft. travel trailer). Comment: This is a small remote but beautiful park with close by access to Elk herds (Ponca/Boxley AR), fall foliage, War Eagle Grist Mill and Bridge and Crystal Bridges Art museum is a potential day trip.
I camped here the first night of my vacation. I arrived late. The campground was very quite. The sites were clean and well maintained and the bathrooms/showers were really nice. Would definitely recommend.
We stayed here for 6 nights. The park was beautiful. The campsites were large and most were wooded. Full hook-ups were very nice to have as was the concrete pad for parking the truck and trailer. Since we were there from Sunday to Saturday (during the week) there were not many campers. One night it was just us and another family. There is no cell phone reception in the park. Bathrooms were very clean (no one there to use them). Ranger and staff were pleasant and helpful. We used this park as our base to explore NW Arkansas. Everything we wanted to see - Eureka Springs, Crystal Bridges, Buffalo River were all within an hour or so. There is a county road on one side of the park that you can hear some traffic noises but it isn't really that heavily traveled. Camp here!
We stayed a weekend at Withrow Springs and plan to return soon now that the pool is open. It is a lovely campground. The hiking trails are beautiful and not too long for a family with younger kids. The river is a great place to canoe and swim, but if prefer clean, chlorinated swimming, there is a pool. There is also a little stocked fishing hole, and really nice picnic areas for use even if you are just coming for an afternoon. Full hookups and level sites are nice. Lots of shady spots too. There is no cell service in the camp...and just barely at the park gift shop/office so be prepared to be mostly unplugged. The kids rode their bikes, we hiked in the trails, and relaxed. The Park Rangers organized kid and family activities most evenings we were there.
We camped here for a week and had an enjoyable stay. The State Park camping fees are very reasonable. The RV sites are nice and roomy with full hook-ups. Plenty of nature to enjoy during your stay, with hiking trails, picnic areas, and a playground area for children. No cell phone or wi-fi access. Great location for 'day trips' to Eureka Springs. One warning - if you are not familiar with chiggers, you will be after camping here during mid-spring to early summer. Take plenty of insect spray.
These campsites are some of the nicest we've seen. They each offer privacy, concrete pads, gravel under your metal picnic table and a nice shower house. There are only 30 sites. There is one nature trail near the campground but otherwise, the campground is located a ways from the entrance, etc. The spring was not flowing when we were there and what they called a fishing pond was a small mossy spot that couldn't be more than a foot or two deep. It is a lovely well maintained park but very small. We drove to the War Eagle Access and walked the trail along War Eagle Creek. I strongly recommend that but its not for those that have a fear of heights or can do some rugged terrain. If those things don't bother you, this trail offers some great views and was a fun climb along some rock bluffs. There is even a cable to help you in some of the steeper areas. Anyway, this makes for a nice stop on your way to something else but doesn't offer a lot to do on its own. We did take the drive to see the elk nearby and that was worth the trip if you are into elk but bring binoculars.
It's a short drive from Eureka but it is well worth it. They have a nice visitor center and pool. There are several hiking trails too. Great place for an afternoon picnic.
This is a lovely park near Huntsville. It has a large swimming pool, wonderful picnic areas and really pretty camping areas. Great for a day trip picnic or a week of camping.
We have camped at this park three times now and have always had a great campsite. The park is super clean, and the sites are very level and well laid out. The bathhouse is exceptionally clean and nice. The staff at the front desk are always cheerful and helpful. The really great thing about the park is that it is only one hour to Branson, and thirty minuted to Eureka Springs. We plan on making this a yearly event!
