You can easily bike to South Beach on the nice wide bike path coming from Edgartown to the beach. There is also a public bus running every 15 minutes. The beach can be crowded during July and August so I suggest walking down the beach a bit. You'll have the beach to yourselves by doing this.
Katama is a great beach to go to for good waves and great fun. The beach has a beautiful view and is in a great location. I would definitely recommend this beach if you are on Martha's Vineyard.
Katama has little to offer a beachgoer who is looking for food, crowds or seaside attractions. What is does offer is a tranquil setting, nearby parking and great surf.
We bought fresh lobster, wine, cheese and bread and sat on the beach and watched the sunset. Incredible! my wife said it was one of the most fantastic beach views she has ever seen! Enjoy
Nice and clean. Spend the day there. So relaxing, mesmorizing water, birds and dunes. Go early for good parking.
One of the nicest beaches I have visited and will visit again and again; the surf is great and there is plenty of room on the beach. The South facing beach enjoys sunshine all day.
This beach is family friendly. Great fun in the sun and lovely for an evening stroll. Make sure you can carry everything in and out. Parking can cause for a lengthy walk.
Spectacular beach. Easy to access via public transportation. Natural state with our commercial development.
A must see. Plan to spend time wandering the endless, clean beach, watching the waves as they come in.
What I love about my visit to Martha's Vineyard is all of the amazing places to see. Katama Beach was lots of fun. Four wheeling friendly as well.
I enjoyed all of the beaches on the Vineyard for different reasons; Katama Beach felt like the most remote of all we visited...a vast, gorgeous beach. Nice and sandy (vs. rocky.) Fairly rough seas while we were there in September that made swimming a no-go, but a great beach for relaxing in the ocean air. Loved the bike path that leads to the beach, too--a very nice bike ride from Edgartown.
we love this beach for its surf and breeze. not so great for little children who haven't learned how to handle the waves and undertow.
Wow. We had a perfect beach day here. Probably the best beach I've ever been too. The day was extremely hot but the breeze on the beach kept us cool. It was almost chilly. We parked in the "middle" thanks to an insider tip and found it was hardly crowded. A great beach for waves, people watching and relaxing and reading.
Rode bikes over the beach. There is plenty of parking along a parallel street and some stalls to change clothing. The beach is clean and the waves strong. Great place to spend a lazy day!
Wonderful bike and a great getaway within the getaway. Loved the general store on the way. A good use of our time.
